Chapter 233: Before Another Wave (1)
In the past week, it wasn’t like Arren wasn’t doing anything and was only watching everything from the sidelines. Although, due to some circumstances, he wasn’t truly allowed to be seen in public much for safety purposes, Arren still made sure he contributed in some way that he could.
Aside from making sure Spade wasn’t overworking himself, he also donated a significant amount to the families while accompanying Spade to their funerals. He knew that money couldn’t mend the wound that the incident left the families, but it was the least he could do that was within his ability.
And regarding his condition, Arren still continued talking with Ms. M while they also planned to prepare him to undergo a hypnosis session. It was somehow risky for him to open his deepest memories because of how strong his defenses were. According to Ms. M, since his subconscious refused to acknowledge these memories, that could only mean that these were terrifying memories that might break him.
Arren might not be sure if the shadow signified him or the real Arren, but regardless of the answer, both affected him equally in this life. Spade was also hesitant but supported whatever Arren decided in the end.
"I feel like I’m the only one that’s useless," Arren muttered weakly, leaning lazily on the couch. Because he was weak and posed so many risks, he couldn’t help but help Spade when he openly told the alpha he wanted to share the burdens together.
"I don’t think you are," Rave refuted. When Arren lifted his head to look at him, he swallowed the response he was about to utter, seeing the omega’s serious expression.
He had always thought that even then, Rave’s serious expression, despite his gentle-looking face, was sometimes quite intimidating. So he was always awkward to him before; he had such an unapproachable aura in him that even Arren was having a hard time getting through, even with his shamelessness.
"You’re even stronger than most people I know," Rave continued with the same expression across his face. As Arren observed him, he couldn’t see that the omega was only consoling him, and it seemed he was telling him what he really thought.
"Why do you think so?" Arren asked. The atmosphere between them was still comfortable, even with the problem hanging over their heads.
Rave also leaned on the couch and lowered his head to look Arren in the eye. "You’re one of the prime targets of the organization, and yet you never succumb to fear. Arren, you’re far stronger than you think."
Stunned, Arren blinked and fell silent for a moment.
