Spade wasn’t as busy this day; it was like after the monthly assembly he would have a day off the next day. It was also because something big was about to happen that he was already doing his best to be with Arren.
They were only about to check something in Spade’s study when they both stopped. There, in front of the door, sat Levin. He was leaning on the door; his eyes were blank as he looked into the distance. Even if they couldn’t see his face closer, it was obvious that the alpha had been awake the whole night with how exhausted he looked.
Arren glanced at Spade, who did the same, as they shared the same expression. He really came. Both returned their gaze to Levin; Arren’s expression was conflicted, while Spade’s was still the same but more solemn.
One only knew Levin superficially at most, from the book and how he interacted with the alpha when they were together. And the other knew Levin since they were kids; Spade might not show it to his face often, but wasn’t it because he treasured their time together that he didn’t cut off the alpha immediately?
Looking at Levin, Spade already had a guess that something had indeed happened for him to be like this. With this, he frowned. What could it be that the alpha looked so devastated now?
They stood not far away from Levin, watching him. The alpha, who was sitting absentmindedly on the ground, seemed to sense someone was looking at him as he instinctively raised his head to look in their direction.
At first, Levin only stared at them with his dazed eyes, but a few seconds later, when it registered in his mind and he recognized who they were, the alpha stood almost instinctively and bowed as a greeting before raising his head again, but he still didn’t dare to raise his head and meet their gaze, or more specifically Spade’s.
