Chapter 96: Giving in (1)
"Was I to inform someone to bring you something, Milady? You keep glancing at the door," Agnes said, finally speaking up.
Agnes doubted Selene was reading the book in her hands since she constantly looked at the door.
"No. I," Selene started but didn’t want to share her thoughts. Instead, she closed the book since it didn’t have her attention. "What time is it now? It is quite late."
Agnes looked out the window. "It is the perfect time to walk around. The night air isn’t too cold. Would you like to go for a walk or is it that you want to rest?"
"No," Selene shook her head. "I have walked around enough for the day and I am not tired. The estate has come alive at this hour."
"Well, it is the time most fitting for vampires to roam. They are cleaning up what was left from your dinner with Lord Blackthorn. Oh," Anges said, now realising what was troubling Selene.
Selene wished to know what caused Agnes to avoid her eyes. "What is it?"
"I didn’t realise at first you were waiting for the lord to return," Agnes replied.
"I am not waiting for him. Truly," Selene added since Agnes didn’t seem convinced. "I wasn’t."
"Then I was mistaken," Agnes answered, lowering her head so Selene couldn’t see her face.
"I know that you do not believe me. I spent many hours by his side today. I am enjoying the break from him teasing me. You were wrong with what you assumed," Selene said, trying to hide the truth.
