Chapter 59: Yes He Is
"Did they matter to me? You ask..."
As he asked this question, the sound of the hilt of the wooden training sword cracking echoed through the training grounds.
"I hate humans, even though I’m one of them I really despise all of them. I know what pieces of shit they are. I’ve never met more than a thousand well-meaning humans in my entire life. In my eyes, every single human can die, except my sister, some people from the empire like my aunt or uncle, and as many people in this academy as I can count on my fingers."
"Yet, despite all this, there is one thing I cannot deny. Yes, everyone and everything matters, whether I like it or not."
"Which brings me to this conclusion. I may hate humans and therefore refuse to be a hero. That doesn’t extend to other races, though. Kris was a human and a devil worshipper. Which makes my words true. A human brought three of the closest creatures to the concept of gods to their deathbed."
With these words, the hilt of the wooden sword Atlas held in his hand shattered, and the sword fell to the ground.
"Damn it!" Atlas thought in his own mind and then turned towards Cassandra and uttered the following words:
"The word importance is not real, especially in real life. We are disgusting creatures of a disgusting world, all races are. We act according to our instincts and thoughts. Love, hate, happiness, sadness and many more are inside us, and unfortunately, many people do not have these. Still, when I saw those triplet sisters with their clothes ripped and in such a horrible state that I couldn’t take the words in my mouth..." Atlas said, and it was as if his vocal cords were knotted with all the things he had experienced and seen in his previous life.
"Sexual harassment?" Cassandra questioned, her anger growing with each passing second.
