At the Prosecution Office...
"Let’s wrap things up early. I need to buy something for Prosecutor Lancaster," Jane reminded everyone, glancing at the clock with urgency.
Henry shook his head subtly, his gaze drifting toward Rain’s vacant office. It had only been a week since she had woken up from the incident, yet her indefinite leave had already left a noticeable void. Her absence was deeply felt by the entire team.
Matt had taken the responsibility of explaining the situation, though he shared only the bare minimum of details. The room fell quiet for a moment, everyone seemingly lost in their thoughts about Rain and what she must be enduring.
The Lancaster family had ensured that the matter stayed private, keeping it out of the media.
Henry sighed heavily, the weight of concern settling over him. Everyone in the team had been eager to visit Rain, but her family had been protective, restricting access to her.
Thankfully, today was different. Rain had finally allowed them to visit. Matt had shared that she’d been spending all her time in the hospital, in the room of her husband, Alexander, who was in a coma.
The thought made Henry’s chest tighten. He couldn’t imagine the pain she was going through, watching the man she loved in such a state. But despite the distance and the barriers, he was determined to show his support somehow. "Let’s finish this up quickly," Henry said, straightening.
The group headed straight to the hospital after clocking out. As Henry stepped into the room, he couldn’t help but notice how much Rain had changed in just a week. She looked thinner, her face pale, and dark circles framed her slightly swollen eyes. It was clear she had been carrying a heavy burden.
