Chapter 1005 - 806: Drunkenness (Part 2)
Lin Wan just realized that Dry Dad and Brother Junzi were missing from the living room. "Godmother, where are Dry Dad and Brother Junzi?"
"They got up a while ago and just had a bowl of soup. I sent them back to change clothes. There are quite a few people coming to pay their respects today, so you all hurry and eat, then accompany your grandparents to greet the guests."
"Okay." Han Yi nodded, turning his head to see Mei Shuping up and dressed, seemingly having eaten already.
"Hurry and eat, it’s just Haichang and Xiao Chi left now." Liang Qian had been busy all morning without a chance to eat. Now that she was free, she sat down to have some porridge with Lin Wan, but barely took two sips when Chen Haichang interrupted her by coming downstairs.
"I’m awake, awake. Ugh, I feel terrible, Sister-in-law."
Chen Haichang said as he slumped into a chair, frowning in discomfort.
Liang Qian glanced sideways at him, humming, "Felt terrible but drank so much last night. Look at how drunk you got your second brother." Despite complaining, she didn’t forget to serve him a bowl of sour soup.
Chen Haichang took a sip with a bitter face and said, "Their drinking capacity is just too poor. I wasn’t the one getting them drunk. Sister-in-law didn’t see, your son got me in this state too."
"You and your quick mouth," Liang Qian, knowing she couldn’t argue with him, gave up trying.
As they were eating, Mei Langchi and Ye Qing came downstairs.
Ye Qing seemed in good spirits today, her hair freshly washed and still damp. With a face full of smiles, one arm was linked with Mei Langchi’s. It was clear that she was in a good mood.
In contrast, Mei Langchi’s face was cold, if not outright blackened. Clearly unhappy, yet for some reason, when he looked at Ye Qing, he tried to force a smile or an affectionate look.
Such obvious actions, everyone could see it, and Ye Qing certainly noticed.
She knew Mei Langchi was angry because of what happened last night. She thought it was no big deal; they were a married couple, and it wasn’t the first time. Although there were some unpleasantness in the past, from the way Mei Langchi treated her over the past few days, she thought he’d forgiven her, otherwise why would he be with her?
She just didn’t know what happened this morning.
When Mei Langchi woke up and saw them both undressed, he immediately blackened his face. Although he said nothing, speaking to her gently, Ye Qing could feel his change. It was obviously because of what happened last night.
She couldn’t figure out what she did to upset him again, making him so angry.
"Ah Qing, time for your medicine. Sit down first, I’ll get you some water." As they both got to the dining room with separate thoughts, Mei Langchi suddenly gently took Ye Qing’s hand and helped her to the table, showing affection regardless of the others.
The bit of doubt in Ye Qing’s heart was now tossed away by Mei Langchi’s words. She gave a shy smile and nodded, "Okay."
Honestly, Ye Qing felt she was in great shape today, full of energy, and didn’t really want to take the medicine. But in front of so many people, she couldn’t let Mei Langchi down.
She cooperatively took her medicine, and at this moment, Ye Qing could see from the corner of her eye the envy in Lin Wan’s eyes. This gave her a sudden sense of superiority.
They agreed to let go of everything, agreed not to compare, but whenever she saw Lin Wan, she just couldn’t help it.
Ye Qing was savoring the medicine given by Mei Langchi with affectionate looks, enjoying the envious gaze from Lin Wan, feeling particularly delightful. Unconsciously, her smile deepened.
Little did Ye Qing know, Lin Wan wasn’t envying her but was marveling at Mei Langchi’s meticulousness, how Ye Qing’s medicine was always at hand, never leaving her side.
And Ye Qing appeared thoroughly enjoying this, yet Lin Wan merely thought Ye Qing had become foolish.
Such an obvious deception, yet Ye Qing didn’t notice!
They hadn’t finished eating when guests started arriving to pay their respects.
More and more people came, mostly to visit the Mei Family elders.
Lin Wan came to understand today that despite Old Mei not being in the military for years, he still had many old war buddies and former subordinates.
No wonder the Mei Family held such high prestige in the Capital City.
Some guests stayed for lunch, and fortunately, most were men, sparing the women from socializing; otherwise, Lin Wan couldn’t have stood it.
By afternoon, Ye Qing had gone upstairs to nap as she was bored. Lin Wan, finding herself idle, took Little Star to her godmother’s house.
Sitting by the fire, watching TV.
She didn’t return until evening.
Lin Wan had originally planned to go back to her home tonight, but the Old Master wouldn’t allow it, saying everyone should stay together tonight for a hot pot meal.
Old Mei enjoyed the harmonious family atmosphere from the previous night. Before dinner, he called Chen Haichang to the study for a private talk that lasted over an hour.
No one knew what they discussed. When Chen Haichang came out, his expression was neutral, revealing no emotions, the same for Old Mei. Whether it was a compromise or otherwise was unclear.
During dinner, no one brought up drinking, but the old lady had Xie Lingzhi go out beforehand to buy some fruit wine suitable for both adults and children.
The family gathered around the hot pot, and with the previous day’s atmosphere, everyone was harmonious today, except for Han Yi and Mei Langchi avoiding conversation. Everyone else got along well.
Mei Shuping was also much friendlier to Chen Haichang. Other than the matter regarding Tao Jia, there wasn’t any real animosity between Mei Langchi and Mei Lang Jun.
But that matter, it was an eternal sore spot that Mei Langchi couldn’t let go of.
