Chapter 1003 - 805: New Year’s Eve Dinner (Part 2)
For him, losing or not losing doesn’t change much for now, the only difference is a bit less security.
These calligraphy and paintings are painful to lose, but it’s not the end yet, he has more good stuff than just these.
The remaining items, even Old Mrs. Mei isn’t aware of.
As the family got excited with drinking, Mr. Mei also got the itch to join. His father didn’t dare let him drink too much and only poured a small cup for him.
The women watched them drink from the side, feeling it was uninteresting. Old Mrs. Mei led them to the living room by the fireplace, where they cracked sunflower seeds while watching TV.
Old Mrs. Mei specially prepared red envelopes.
One each for Little Star and Hua Hua, and even she and Ye Qing had a share.
This year is Lin Wan’s first year celebrating New Year at the Mei Family, so according to the rules, it’s only right to give one.
Ye Qing is not the first year, but when she first came, the Mei Family members were not willing, even very opposed to it, not to mention red envelopes. If Ye Qing hadn’t pretended to be pregnant, even that New Year would’ve been difficult.
This year, considering Ye Qing’s good performance and that she bore a grandson for the Mei Family, they reluctantly accepted her.
Of course, regarding Ye Qing’s current illness, they are very cautious. Xie Lingzhi and Old Mrs. Mei are quite dissatisfied. However, given the current situation, they can’t say much, acting as if nothing’s happened, thinking about letting Xiao Chi quickly divorce Ye Qing after the New Year.
Ye Qing was already feeling dizzy during dinner, now she’s too tired to stay awake and began nodding off. Seeing this, Xie Lingzhi suggested she head upstairs to sleep.
Ye Qing wanted to have a chat with them, but was too sleepy, so she just told Hua Hua to follow grandma, took her red envelope, and went upstairs to sleep.
Seeing Hua Hua playing so happily with Little Star, Ye Qing felt discomfort in her heart.
Her son, how could he be Lin Wan’s daughter’s follower? Although she understands it now, facing the situation, she still feels uneasy.
Despite her inner displeasure, she dared not say much today. Due to the issue with the calligraphy, with money linked to her, it’s better to keep a low profile.
...
The men in the Mei Family drank without knowing when to stop, their faces flushed, probably unable to leave tonight.
Liang Qian quickly boiled some hot water and filled a foot basin for Lin Wan. At around ten o’clock, she asked Lin Wan to take Little Star to bed.
Lin Wan didn’t delay, approached Han Yi to say something, and took Little Star upstairs.
Though they’d been away for a few days, with the windows tightly closed, there wasn’t much dust.
After placing the foot basin, Lin Wan took off her pants, then hugged Little Star and sat in the bed.
She took out the red envelopes received tonight.
"Mom, mom, you only got one. Little Star got the most. Great-grandpa, grandpas, and uncles all gave."
"Yes, yes, Little Star got more than mom," Lin Wan smiled and opened her own envelope, feeling quite satisfied and secretly noting that the old lady was generous, having given two hundred.
"Mom, look, Little Star has as much as mom does. There’s a lot, too." Little Star still can’t count to two hundred; school has taught her to count up to ten, and Lin Wan has taught her at home up to a hundred. Clearly, Little Star can count up to a hundred now, but can’t count beyond that.
"Okay, okay, mom will keep it safe for you, and when we go back tomorrow, we’ll put it in your treasure box, alright?"
Little Star shook her head, "No, I want dad to hold it for Little Star."
"Alright, alright." Lin Wan found a comfortable position to half-lie down, holding her daughter, while organizing the money, and calling Little Star to count below two hundred.
As she taught, Little Star fell asleep with the money in her hand.
Lin Wan undressed the child, then laid down herself to sleep.
Unaware of when the downstairs went silent, when Han Yi came up, smelling of alcohol, the whole room instantly filled with the scent of wine.
The originally sleeping Lin Wan was awakened by the smell. Groggily sitting up, she saw Han Yi standing there with his head down, unmoving.
"Why did you drink so much? Are you feeling uncomfortable?" Lin Wan hurriedly got out of bed with a coat.
Han Yi shook his head, and began to undress. But he struggled for a while without undoing a single button. Lin Wan knew he was quite drunk.
"Do you need to go to the bathroom? Do you feel like vomiting?" Lin Wan quickly supported him and asked.
"Feeling uncomfortable," Han Yi furrowed his brow, raising his arms to pull Lin Wan into a hug, acting childishly, somewhat spoiled.
"Knowing it’s uncomfortable yet drink so much, sit down, I’ll get you some hot water."
Han Yi still shook his head, holding her tightly and unwilling to let go. While Lin Wan was trying to push him away, she suddenly realized Han Yi wasn’t looking well. She quickly helped him into the bathroom.
He vomited for a while before feeling a bit better. Lin Wan quickly went downstairs to get him hot water, then found Chen Haichang also drunk, not knowing north from south.
On the first floor, aunt and Xie Lingzhi hadn’t left yet. Everyone was drunk like mud.
Uncle and Brother Junzi were lying on the table, aunt couldn’t manage to take them home alone. They were vomiting one moment, wanting a drink the next; aunt had to go home to get a blanket, laying it in the living room by the fireplace, letting them two make do for the night.
The one who drank the most was Mei Shuping, having been coaxed to drink by Han Yi and Mei Langchi, along with Chen Haichang. Pulling Mei Shuping and Mei Shuqing to drink continuously, Mei Lang Jun, having a lower tolerance, tried to shield his father several times and ended up too drunk to rise.
The Mei Family men, except for Mr. Mei, all got thoroughly drunk, yet, they were all quite cheerful with this drunkenness.
The women however were worked hard, having been busy for them most of the day.
Lin Wan helped aunt with uncle and the group, then assisted Chen Haichang into his room, covered him with a blanket, and only then carried the hot water upstairs.
