Chapter 1375: I Have Nothing More to Say
"As your husband, even if it’s just in name, showing some concern when you’re sick, at least lets people know that as the Young Madam of the Saxon Family, you’re not just a decoration. This way, your days in the Saxon Family won’t be too difficult."
"If I don’t even have a word of concern left, do you think being the Young Madam of the Saxon Family will be comfortable for you? Even if people don’t openly ridicule you, you shouldn’t expect to truly gain their respect."
He seemed like he really was trying to consider her well-being.
At least, his words were meant to convey that kind of meaning.
But Scarlett Yates only found it laughable upon hearing it, and she really did laugh, "So, I should truly thank you for that then."
Hearing the sarcasm in her voice, Matthew Saxon’s face darkened: "Stop being sarcastic. Are you daring to say that you made yourself like this on purpose just to get my attention?"
Now that he came to show concern, she was putting on such a high stance.
If this was her way of playing hard to get, he could only say her approach was far too unsophisticated.
Women playing hard to get at the right time can spark a man’s interest, but overdoing it only backfires.
On this point, he felt it necessary to remind her.
"Scarlett Yates, there’s a limit to everything. Wasn’t making a scene on the plane enough? You come home and continue? Just how long do you plan to keep this up?"
"If your goal is to make me admit I was wrong, sorry to let you know that you’ll be disappointed if that’s what you think."
He carelessly tossed the medicine onto the table, the cup following suit, and slowly stood up.
His tall and upright figure stood by the bed, casting a long shadow that blocked most of the light.
Scarlett Yates slightly squinted her eyes, lifted her chin high, and looked up at him.
She stayed silent, simply watching quietly.
After a while, Matthew Saxon lost his cool, his gaze turning cold as he asked harshly, "What are you looking at?"
Scarlett slowly curved her lips into a smile, finally speaking in a leisurely tone, "I’m looking to see if there’s a common trait among all arrogant men."
Matthew Saxon was taken aback, his phoenix-shaped eyes narrowed deeply, "Are you calling me arrogant?"
"Isn’t it so?" She held her neck upward for a moment, feeling a soreness, and slowly lowered her head again, "If a woman can only rely on playing tricks and acting pitiful to get a man’s attention and pity, then such a woman is pathetic."
"People who truly care about you will show it, no matter what. Attention gained through trickery isn’t genuine concern either."
"I’m not pathetic enough to that extent, so you’ve overthought it. No matter what I do, it doesn’t have much to do with you. Being too self-absorbed is also a sickness that needs to be cured."
Matthew Saxon’s face instantly darkened to the extreme.
With eyes as cold as ice, he locked onto her firmly, "Scarlett Yates, say that again."
"I have nothing more to say." She kept her head down, unable to see his expression at this moment, but it wasn’t hard to guess.
Because his voice was as cold as ice.
"Now, can you leave? You’re really hindering my rest by being here. If you truly want to show concern for me, then please leave." Seeing him only constantly reminds her that she’s just a woman he can discard at will.
