Chapter 1373: Take the Medicine
Explain everything clearly...
Scarlett Yates pulled out another pale, powerless smile.
Are there really things she can "explain clearly" just by explaining?
Besides, even if Matthew Saxon had misunderstood her and said some unpleasant things, none of that hurt as much as that one sentence: "No woman can ever compare to Little Tail."
What she truly minded, what truly hurt, was suddenly realizing that her place in his heart wasn’t nearly as important as she’d thought.
Scarlett didn’t speak, and Olly thought she was seriously considering her words. Feeling a bit delighted with herself, convinced she’d done something pretty good, she kept defending Matthew: "The Young Master has gone to get some medicine right now. He’ll be back very soon. He told me to stay here and take good care of you."
"Young Madam, how are you feeling now? Is there anywhere else that’s uncomfortable? Do you want some hot water?"
Scarlett hadn’t expected Matthew to come back to check on her again, so she didn’t take what Olly said to heart.
"Help me pour some hot water." Her throat was dry and scratchy, she’d broken out in so much sweat; she was parched and exhausted.
"Then Young Madam, wait just a bit, I’ll go right now." Olly tugged the quilt up around her, then immediately got up to go fetch water.
She had just finished filling the cup with hot water and was turning to bring it to Scarlett when the bedroom door was suddenly pushed open.
Olly twisted around to look and instantly lit up, the corners of her mouth curling upward as she called out with a smile, "Young Master."
See, she’d said the Young Master would be here again very soon.
Look at that, how long has it even been? Barely more than ten minutes since he left, and he was already back to see the Young Madam.
Her call of "Young Master" was crisp and loud, so much so that Scarlett couldn’t pretend she hadn’t heard it.
She lifted her heavy head and slowly turned, looking toward the doorway.
Matthew Saxon walked in from outside, holding a bunch of things in his hands. She couldn’t see clearly what they were, but Scarlett guessed it was probably a pile of medicine.
She felt a faint stir of surprise in her chest.
She’d thought Olly was just saying nice things to comfort her, had never expected Matthew really had gone to get medicine for her.
As she was looking at Matthew, Matthew also raised his head to glance at her.
Their eyes met, and they looked at each other for a few seconds. Then Matthew was the first to look away. He walked over to Olly’s side, said something to her in a low voice, and Scarlett saw Olly beam with joy and nod, then hand him the cup in her hand.
Once she’d done all that, Olly very tactfully left the room. After she stepped out, she gently closed the door.
Scarlett suddenly felt that this spacious room had shrunk, grown much narrower in an instant.
The air seemed to be filled everywhere with Matthew’s scent.
It was a scent she had no way to ignore, intense and domineering as it flooded her nose.
As he drew closer, Scarlett’s heart—which hadn’t been all that calm to begin with—started pounding even harder; without realizing it, she tightened her grip on a corner of the quilt.
"I brought some medicine up."
In contrast to the turbulence inside her, Matthew looked very calm and indifferent. When he spoke, his expression was cool, and his tone just as flat.
He sat down naturally at the bedside, took a packet of medicine out of the bag in his hand, and tore it open. Pills of various colors rolled into his palm. He held the pills and the hot water out to her. "Take the medicine."
His tone was concise, detached, so it sounded like an order.
Scarlett’s brows drew together. She forced down the emotions churned up inside, took a few deep breaths, and when she spoke, her tone was equally faint: "Just set the medicine down. I know how to take it myself."
