Chapter 1266: I Wouldn’t Take You Even If You Were Free
He said coldly, "Even though this is a hospital, a public place, it doesn’t mean you can just come visit whenever you feel like it. Do you seriously have no sense at all? Can’t you tell people here don’t exactly welcome you?"
"You know my dad is the chairman of the Yates Clan, so you should be well aware that the boss behind this hospital includes someone from the Yates Family. Which means, if I want to come, I can just come. As for you saying I’m not welcome, that’s even more irrelevant. I’m not at the hospital for the you who lost his memory, I’m here for that likable Matthew Saxon."
"The doctor said that this annoying version of you will only last for at most half a month. After half a month, the Matthew Saxon I like will be back. Tell me, would I really give up on the you I like just because of the current you?"
Her little speech sounded like a tongue twister. When she finished, she herself felt she’d made a very convincing point.
Matthew Saxon glared at her, face still cold. "A thick‑skinned, completely oblivious woman like you is seriously rare."
Scarlett Yates set down the fruit basket, put the flowers into the vase, then turned around and gave him a slight smile, looking utterly unconcerned. "But you still ended up falling for me, didn’t you? So, Matthew Saxon, that just proves you like thick‑skinned women like me. Don’t deny it. What’s the fun in saying one thing and feeling another?"
"Who said I like you? A woman like you, I wouldn’t take you even if you were free." His brows drew together for a moment—when she turned and smiled sweetly just now, his heart had given a sudden thump.
Sure enough, the moment he saw her, that out‑of‑control feeling came rushing back.
And he did not like that feeling; he resisted it intensely.
He’d always been the one who held everyone else in the palm of his hand, and now his emotions were being manipulated by someone else.
George said he had really liked this woman, and that he’d willingly married her.
George also said this woman was truly important to him, someone worth trusting and cherishing for a lifetime.
George was his right‑hand man. He might doubt her words, but George’s words he still trusted.
So before he lost his memory, he had genuinely liked this woman, liked her so deeply that even after the memory loss she could still sway him so easily.
That was something Matthew Saxon couldn’t deny.
Yesterday, after Scarlett left, he thought of her many times—each time, she just popped into his mind without warning.
That silhouette seemed already carved into his brain: the harder he tried to forget, the clearer her every frown and smile became.
What annoyed him even more was that when she was here, he kept wanting her to leave, thinking that out of sight would mean out of mind, and that it’d be best if he never saw her again.
But after she really left, after just one day without seeing her, he’d actually started worrying she might never come back.
It was especially obvious today—every time someone pushed the door open, he’d look over to see if it was her. And when it wasn’t, he’d feel a stab of disappointment.
This woman was terrifying.
Women like her are the most dangerous. He truly had no idea what was wrong with his past self—not only had he failed to stay away from her, he’d even married her.
Back then, he must have been completely blinded by love.
He rather looked down on that version of himself, for getting bewitched by a little girl like her. Something like that would absolutely never happen to him now.
