Chapter 11: Tiss
[Tiss] "So what’s your story, Wade?"
[Wade?] "What do you mean?"
[Tiss] "There’s gotta be more to you. I just know you’re a country bumpkin with almost no knowledge of anything, who got lost in the Bloodsoaked Forest, naked nonetheless... Who are you, Wade?"
[Wade?] "I don’t think there’s much to say-"
[Tiss] "For fuck’s sake, Wade, just tell me. I don’t want to walk in silence anymore!"
She’s right, though. Walking silently and holding hands has been both awkward and nerve-racking. We’ve been moving forward in a straight line from space to space without a single turn. Just a straight hallway.
[Wade?] "Fine... Well I wasn’t ever a very motivated person. Growing up, I never really had friends. I didn’t leave my house unless my grandpa made me. I was this fat little kid who became a lame adult who would rather play games than interact with the world..."
There’s silence for just a few steps. I haven’t ever talked about myself with another person before. It’s harder to open up than I thought.
[Wade?] "I got a chance to have a new life. I tried to change everything about myself and then I leapt at my chance to become someone new. And after... this and that... an accident happened and I wound up naked at the shore of that lake. That’s pretty much all there is to it."
