Chapter 116: Stay Behind
James Brown pulled John Stephens aside, and John Stephens said with some nervousness, "How much do you need? If it’s too much, I’ll have to wait until after the wedding to pay you."
John Stephens wasn’t wealthy. His parents had managed his wedding, and with the cost of buying and decorating a house, their savings were nearly all spent. This unexpected expense for the emcee definitely hadn’t been budgeted for, but luckily, they had received plenty of red envelopes at the wedding, which they’d have to use now.
This money was originally intended for their honeymoon, but it looked like the honeymoon trip was going to be put on hold. However, to have secured two celebrity hosts was worth it.
James Brown patted John Stephens on the shoulder, saying, "You don’t need to pay."
"What?" John Stephens gasped with widened eyes, shouting in disbelief.
James Brown smiled and said, "I mean you don’t have to give them red envelopes."
"How can that be okay? How can that be okay?" John Stephens shook his head vehemently, refusing to believe that they could have two celebrity hosts and not pay a dime.
James Brown explained, "They did it out of respect for my boss, it’s not about the money. If they took the money, it would actually be disrespecting my boss instead. So, you don’t have to worry."
John Stephens was dumbfounded with joy. He slapped James Brown’s shoulder hard and said excitedly, "James... this... this favor is enormous, you’re far too kind."
"Come on, what are friends for, right? We’re old classmates, after all."
"Yes, we’re old classmates." John Stephens suddenly felt that this bond of old classmates was more important than any other.
