Just then, the doorbell suddenly rang.

Aurora turned around and opened the front door. Standing outside was Lucas.
As soon as Lucas entered the house, he immediately noticed Alex and Adeline.
His expression instantly became grim. His brows knitted together. "Why are both of you here?"
He looked directly at Alex. "Didn’t I already tell you my decision?"
Alex calmly nodded. "You did. But we still need Mom’s permission."
The moment Lucas heard that, his expression changed dramatically.
"Are you an idiot? If you tell Mom..."
He suddenly stopped himself. His gaze unconsciously shifted toward Adeline.
The meaning behind his silence couldn’t have been more obvious.
If Mary discovered the truth, she might end up blaming Adeline. The atmosphere instantly became awkward.

Alex looked toward Aurora. Then he calmly answered, "Your brother is planning to donate one of his kidneys."

Her eyes immediately widened. She stared at Lucas in complete disbelief.
Lucas instantly gritted his teeth.
"Alex! If you want revenge against me, fine. But you shouldn’t have told my little sister!"

As they entered, Lucas secretly shot Alex and Aurora a warning glance.

She clapped her hands happily. "Don’t worry. I’ll prepare Alex’s favourite chicken soup."
She then looked toward Adeline.
"And since Adeline loves cucumber salad... I’ll make that too. Oh... I’ll also prepare the stew you liked last time."
With those words, Mary happily stood up. Seeing this, Lucas hurriedly stopped her.
"Mom. You’ve been tired all day. You should rest. I’ll handle dinner."
Mary tilted her head. After thinking for a moment, she gently rubbed her shoulders.
She had indeed been feeling rather exhausted. "All right. Then I’ll go rest for a while."
Smiling warmly, she slowly walked toward her bedroom.
Meanwhile... Adam quietly took a seat on the sofa.
Unlike Mary, he immediately sensed that something was wrong.
Looking directly at Lucas, Adam calmly asked, "Is there something all of you want to tell me?"
Lucas instinctively looked toward Alex.

Alex calmly spoke first.
"Dad... There’s something important you need to know."
Without hiding anything further, Alex proceeded to explain the entire situation, from Nia’s diagnosis and the urgent need for a kidney transplant to Lucas’s decision to become the donor.
As Adam quietly listened to every word, the relaxed expression on his face gradually disappeared, replaced by one of deep shock and complicated emotions.
He looked at Alex first. Then his gaze shifted toward Lucas.
After remaining silent for several moments, he finally spoke in a calm yet solemn voice.
"Since this is something Lucas has decided for himself. I won’t stop him."
His sharp eyes settled firmly on Lucas.
"But remember one thing. Whatever decision you make today, you alone will bear the consequences. If, someday in the future, you begin to resent this decision, don’t you dare blame anyone. Not your siblings. Not your family. Not anyone."
Lucas met his father’s gaze without hesitation. He nodded firmly. "I understand."
His answer was steady and carried no trace of doubt. Adeline, who had been standing quietly all this time, felt a huge weight lift from her heart.
Her eyes gradually became moist. She immediately bowed slightly. "Thank you so much, Uncle."
Adam gently waved his hand. The sternness on his face softened ever so slightly.
"It’s alright. If this is truly his own decision... I have no right to interfere."
He then looked toward Adeline with a gentler expression.
"Adeline. If your sister needs anything, if you need financial assistance... tell us. We’ll help."
Naturally, everyone understood that Adam was referring to money. Adeline hurriedly shook her head.
"No. There’s really no need. I already have enough money."
As she spoke, her gaze unconsciously drifted toward Aurora.
’She was the one who gave me that money...’
Thinking of Aurora’s generosity, warmth quietly filled Adeline’s heart.
She silently sighed. ’The Waters family really are wonderful people. I truly hope they’ll continue living peaceful and happy lives.’

Just then, Aurora softly called out, "Mom... are you alright?"

Mary blinked several times. Then she frowned and gently massaged her temples.
"It’s nothing... I just have a slight headache."
She took several deep breaths before looking back at Adeline.
This time, she noticed the fear and panic filling the young woman’s eyes. Mary’s heart softened.
She sighed deeply. "Child... I truly don’t want you to misunderstand me. It’s not that I dislike you."
She slowly lowered her voice. "But... no mother can calmly watch her own child willingly give away a part of their body."

"I carried him inside me for nine months. I gave birth to him. So, please understand how I feel."

He looked directly into her eyes. "Are you really going to stop me from making my own decision?"
He shook his head.
"This has nothing to do with Adeline. She never forced me. She never even asked. I made this decision entirely on my own."
Mary’s eyes immediately became moist. She pointed toward Lucas with trembling fingers.
"Do you even understand what you’re saying?"
Her voice cracked. "Once you lose a kidney, your body won’t ever be the same again."
She wiped away the tears gathering at the corners of her eyes.
"Do you know how many complications can happen afterward? What if you want more children later?"
"Mom! Kidney donation doesn’t affect the child’s conception!" Lucas argued.
