Chapter 54: Side Story-08
JOHN
"What are you doing here, Ruth?" My eyebrows jump to my forehead as I swing open the thick black wooden door of my apartment.
There was no plan for seeing each other today. We usually let each other know when and where we want to meet and of course, the times and dates are very scrambled because of the long hours Ruth spends at the hospital.
He works a lot and this is why we can only manage to meet each other once or twice a week. If he is free then thrice a week at most. He has a super tight schedule after all.
But today he just popped out of the thin air at my doorsteps without any notice. I wonder what made him do it.
"Well, this is a Friday night and I don’t have to go to the hospital tomorrow morning." Ruth pushes past me and winds into the living room, inviting himself in, "Oh, I thought it would be great to have a movie night with you. I and Leo always did this sort of stuff when we were in school. But now that Erwin is in the picture, it feels almost impossible to do that. I feel lonely so I came to annoy the crap out of you." He finishes his long explanation in one breath.
"No, it’s completely fine." I smile. I am happy that I was the one he wanted to hang out with. "Don’t you have any other friend besides Leo?"
"Nope." Ruth shakes his head comically, "He is my only one."
"Huh?" I croak in surprise as I close the door and follow him inside, "But you seem pretty popular. How come you haven’t got any other friend other than Leo?"
"Well you see, I have never tried to make one." Ruth shrugs, "Have always been too busy for that shit."
"And you had so much time when you hooked up with the girls." I point out jokingly.
