Chapter 247: Lifted her effortlessly
After attending the heartwarming welcoming party, Layla and Lucius drove home together. As soon as they arrived, Layla stepped out of the car.
Her cheeks flushed with joy and laughter bubbling effortlessly from her lips. The drinks had added a playful glow to her mood, and she couldn’t stop smiling and giggling, her happiness shining as brightly as the stars above.
However, instead of heading inside, Layla wandered toward the water fountain with her unsteady steps.
"Layla!" Lucius called out, quickly following after her. He gently took hold of her arm, thus steadying her.
She tilted her head to look at him, her lips curling into a playful smile. "I had to drink because they offered me," she explained, pausing between words. "It’s rude... to refuse."
Lucius sighed softly. "I know," he said patiently. "But our room is inside the house. And it’s cold out here."
Layla puffed out a breath, watching it swirl in the chilly night air, then rubbed her hands together. Lucius watched her curiously, unsure of what she was doing, until she suddenly placed her warm palms on his cheeks.
"I warmed your cheeks," she murmured with a giggle.
Before he could respond, Layla leaned into him, burying her head against his chest inside the long coat he wore.
