Chapter 245: The Warm Welcome
A few days later, Layla handed her resignation letter to her father, formally stepping down as the director of the Rosenzweig Group. Darius, seated behind his grand oak desk, took the letter with a heavy heart.
"I’ve already released a statement to the press, acknowledging you as my legitimate daughter," Darius said after a moment of silence.
Layla blinked in surprise. "I didn’t expect you’d do that, Dad," she admitted.
Darius sighed, running a hand over his graying hair. "I should have done it years ago. I’m sorry for taking so long. And there’s more—I’ve ensured that you’ll receive the highest share in the will. I’ve finalized everything. Layla, I’m truly sorry for everything you endured. I could have stopped it all, but I didn’t." His words were filled with remorse, his expression one of deep regret.
Layla offered him a small smile. "But you’re making an effort now, Dad. And I appreciate that. You may not realize it, but you did one of the best things for me—making me marry Lucius, even when it was against my will. Because of you, I gained a wonderful husband and a loving family."
Darius looked at her, his eyes glistening with emotion. "Layla, I’m proud of you," he said after a pause. "Despite everything—the rejection, the hardships—you never stopped thriving. Your determination, your resilience... When Mr. Alekis chose you as Chairwoman of the De Salvo Group, I was astounded. What I couldn’t provide, your father-in-law bestowed upon you. And now, the world is taking notice."
Layla’s smile deepened as she absorbed her father’s words. For the first time in years, she felt a glimmer of the bond between them beginning to mend.
"Dad, I’ll do my best at De Salvo Group," she assured him. "If you ever need me here, I’ll be ready to help."
Darius gave her a small nod, pride and affection evident in his eyes. "Of course," he replied, taking the resignation envelope and tucking it away. He hesitated briefly, then smiled warmly. "Come, I’ll walk you out."
