Chapter 183: Survive this blow
"What’s in the bag?" Layla asked, her curiosity piqued as her eyes lingered on the worn leather satchel Roger had placed beside him.
Lucius didn’t hesitate to explain. "The gifts I used to give her when she was younger," he said.
Layla arched an eyebrow. "How can you be so sure without even checking? What if there’s something else in there?" she challenged, her skepticism mirrored in Roger’s approving nod.
Lucius leaned back on the couch. "I know her," he began, "She’s done this before—years ago. She returned every gift I’d ever given her after I shouted at her once. It’s her way of drawing a line."
"She is clearly a spoiled brat!" Roger remarked.
"I’ll put the bag in the storeroom," he said firmly, dismissing the matter. "There’s no need to dwell on it."
With that, he stood, gripping the bag tightly before leaving the room.
Roger watched him leave, a faint smile tugging at his lips. "It seems the Boss has finally made peace with the idea of letting go and is no longer feeling indebted to Sylvia," he remarked.
"Hmm. Lucius did tell me that he ended up yelling at Sylvia. Was it bad? I didn’t ask Lucius since I felt it could bother him," Layla said while knitting her brows together.
"Boss took out his entire frustration at Sylvia, telling her how much she makes him feel low by bringing his past for no reason. To be honest, Sylvia is aware of Boss’s state in the past, still she refuses to see that. She thinks of herself and for her own happiness, she doesn’t care speaking harshly to the others. Boss has been quiet for Matteo, but his patience ended when Sylvia sent you the envelope by hiring someone just to make you hate him."
As Roger unfolded the truth to Layla, she realized why Lucius looked so troubled last night. Why he asked her only to love him with all her heart.
