Real Heiress: Flash Marriage With Boyfriend's Uncle

Chapter 117: Schemed against her

"It’s not that I don’t trust it, but we weren’t present at the time of the test. That’s why it is hard for the others to trust," Miriam stated. "Lucius is known for his crooked ways to handle any matter. Your father hasn’t come because he felt it would only infuriate you both. Come to the hospital in the morning, where the test will take place," she said, carrying a hopeful gaze.

"Don’t say anything bad about Lucius," Layla said, her lips quivering as she was on the verge to cry. She couldn’t act weak by shedding some tears in front of Miriam.

"I didn’t mean to hurt you. Come, let’s sit," Miriam suggested. Grabbing her both arms, she brought Layla to the sofa and made her sit down. "I am so sorry, Layla, that I couldn’t recognize my own daughter. I always turned a blind eye to the injustices you suffered while I pampered Seraphina’s daughter. I even forced you to marry against your own wish. But I’ll turn everything right. I will take you back, free you from Lucius and keep you as my daughter. You will lead the company soon," she began explaining with a smile on her lips.

Layla pulled back her hands from her mother’s grip. "Why will you separate me from Lucius?" She frowned.

"He is a mafia and is involved in the work, one shouldn’t. Why would I let my daughter’s life fall in danger because of him? You didn’t wish to marry him either. I am sorry for throwing you into this marriage. But I’ll make sure to–" Miriam’s remaining words caught in her throat as Layla interjected her.

"This is ridiculous! Who are you to decide what to do with my life? When I was Seraphina’s daughter, you found the proposal too good for me. You wanted to get rid of me. You said I should not have born. I’m not going anywhere with you," Layla declared, staring into her mother’s eyes in disbelief.

"That was my mistake, Layla. Now, I want to rectify them. I want to–"

"I don’t want you to do anything with my life. Do you even know what I feel to know that you are my mother? All the abuse, humiliations I suffered were not justified even if I grew up as Seraphina’s daughter. Everyone in that house made me feel pathetic. Do you think it’s easy for me to forget everything and move on?" Layla furrowed her brows in confusion while looking at Miriam for the answers.

Miriam’s eyes flooded with tears and she shook her head. "I am sorry for that," she said.
