Martial King's Retired Life

Book 16: Chapter 21

The smell of something having been zapped by lightning accompanied an ominous aura. Langya’s whip resembled a dominant lightning snake that frightened off stones and dirt.

A discussion on lightning martial arts without mentioning Dark Robe Brotherhood’s “Forbidden Lightning Winds” was not a real discussion on lightning martial arts. Since they happened to be on Black Robe Brotherhood’s grounds, as well, Bai Lian initially suspected Langya was one of them. As someone who grew up in the imperial palace, Bai Lian had heard plenty about Black Robe Brotherhood’s martial arts disciplines, including the way Wang and Xie Clans used it differently.

Xie Clan focused on the words “Wind Lightning”; they focused on power as opposed to sophistication, so their techniques were simple but strong. If they hit someone with a full-power strike, you would see particles of the once complete body.

In contrast, Wang Clan was able to apply the principles to any other weapon, including their own limbs, which was why their disciplines were diverse. While their victims would look perfectly normal – as far as corpses went – one would find their organs zapped if they were to dissect the corpses.

Langya’s lightning, in contrast, resembled a synthesis of both clans’ version.

Lightning energy was a challenge to fend off due to its shape and the heat accompanying it. In the event that both combatants had similar levels of internal energy potency, the lightning user would have had an overwhelming advantage.

Su Xiao was not fearless; he was just not sure what he was supposed to fear. His martial arts journey was a bizarre one, and despite his progress in Yijin Jing recently, he was still just a mimicker, someone who just did as he was told, yet he swung straight at Langya’s whip. As he did not know how to adapt his energy, when they clashed, the lightning energy invaded Su Xiao’s body, while his blade resembled lightning blasts going off.

Thanks to her experience, Langya decided to redirect her whip to Su Xiao when they clashed, turning her whip into an acupoint striking tool. However, due to the amount of energy in Su Xiao’s blade, her whip was delayed. Once the power from Su Xiao’s weapon transferred over, it struck her whip down, making it resemble a lifeless snake on the ground.

“Impressive internal energy, kid.” Langya recoiled her whip and then swiftly launched a palm strike at Su Xiao’s, generating a loud thud.
