Chapter 257: Mana Control
While Leonard was busy being burned by the Blood Essence offered from Eleanor to help reconstruct his mana body in the room, the outside remained a battlefield of politicalness.
"Where is the Crown Prince?" Norman glanced around the surroundings and inquired. Even though he was commanded to come here to receive permission, he knew very well it was just a formality.
If there was really going to be a punishment, then he would have been punished on the spot like General Henry and his family.
There was no need to be transported to the Crown Prince's palace whatsoever.
The guards were also informed of Norman's identity, so they didn't respond or command him to stop.
They lacked that kind of authority… except for someone else.
"Is the Crown Prince someone the likes of you can ask without any regard for protocol?" Emerging from the shadows was none other than Spencer. His eyes were chilly, and his tone of speech was even more unfriendly.
Others might have to treat Norman with wariness, but that was only because they didn't have the Mage Association connection.
However, Spencer was different. As an Eighth Circle Mage, he could treat the Mage Association as an equal. Not to mention that he had a lot of social connections within the Mage Association, too.
And sure enough, Norman's expression quickly changed. He put on a respectful look and bowed slightly.
"Greetings, Mr. Reed." Norman greeted him in politeness. 'Didn't they say the Butcherer was absent from the palace? Why was he here?'
Previously, there had been no news of Spencer making a presence. Nearly everyone had thought he was running an errand on behalf of the Crown Prince.
Little did Norman know. The truth was that Spencer was told to lie low by Seth to avoid any conflict that could cause Leonard trouble during his time at Velastra.
After all, as long as people didn't know his current whereabouts, they must be cautious in how far they could act.
The wrath and means of an Eighth Circle Mage were no joke.
"This must be your son, Jasper, right?" Spencer didn't even acknowledge Norman's greetings. Instead, he had his attention on Jasper, who was covered with white bandages from top to bottom.
Instantly, Norman's body jolted slightly as he subtly moved in front of Jasper.
"That is correct, Mr. Reed. My son is ignorant and was used as a pawn without even noticing it." Norman quickly responded and explained how his son was dumb enough to be manipulated by others.
Spencer laughed amiably.
"Indeed, ignorance is bliss." He commented. But before Norman could get happy, he dropped another chilling comment.
"But sometimes, many people die because of ignorance. Who knows… one day they could be strolling around the street and the next thing. BAM! Dead in a rotten alley!"
Norman's body jolted slightly at the last remark when Spencer shouted at the end. He swallowed a mouthful of saliva nervously and could only nod his head repeatedly.
While Norman was suppressed by Spencer and had his ego wounded, back at Leonard's room, an intense struggle had just taken place.
"Haa Haa, try to consolidate your mana now," Eleanor said weakly, her face extremely pale. She was devoid of any strength or previous teasing expression.
Despite this, her verbal speech never ended.
"Can I rest in your bed?" She asked cheekily.
Usually, Leonard would have rolled his eyes and called her shameless. But to his surprise, she actually fainted and nearly fell from her wheelchair.
Out of instinct, he hurriedly extended his arm to assist her.
'She really is unconscious…' He could somewhat discern that this wasn't an act of hers to gain sympathy or some other schemes in her mind. She really had no strength or energy. Even the mana fluctuation was going up and down.
As his arms gently lifted her up from the wheelchair, Leonard could only lay her down on his bed.
For a strategist and someone known to be fearsome to all, she was surprisingly vulnerable in his presence.
Did she really trust him this much?
Or was this another manipulative tactic to gain his trust?
Others might call him paranoid, but the truth was that he had experienced such a ploy back in his old world.
When one's standing was so high, there were bound to be all sorts of people who wished to attach themselves to him.
Some who just wanted to latch onto his wealth or his qualities, but there were still some who wanted to secretly harm him by catching his guard off.
Either way, Leonard still helped cover Eleanor with the blanket. Once that was done, he sat with his crossed legs nearby on the floor.
His eyes were closely shut, his consciousness drifting to the mana dwelling in his body.
His anomaly in mana controlling was painfully obvious. It was like a constant blockade that impeded him from being able to manipulate and condense at will.
Such a situation was no different than feeling very hungry, but your stomach could no longer afford any more food capacity.
Starved but unable to eat.
That would be the analogy Leonard would use.
Accurate?
Maybe not!
But close to resemblance?
Surely, that would be the case.
Yet at this very moment, such a blockade seemed to have been penetrated open by the very blood essence offered by Eleanor.
'Breakthrough!' Leonard shouted inwardly and wished to smash the blockade open.
He had constantly felt helpless and even frustrated at the very fact that he couldn't cultivate mana. Anyone could easily take his life if it weren't for the multiple protections he had.
Hell, there may even be constant criticism regarding him for being trash or straight up not training. But the reality was… he had always trained secretly at night, only to no avail.
Leonard didn't know how long he hadn't felt such deep humiliation.
This kind of emotion was something he never wished to experience again. Or at least not frequently enough to be reminded.
And at the height of the blood essence hounding on this blockade, Leonard subconsciously extended his palm.
Surge of mana began to form around them, their intensity spiking higher with every passing second.
Then with a swing, Leonard blasted the internal wall, causing a loud explosion.
He panted heavily, his eyes somewhat wavering as he gazed at the large gaping hole he created.
Mana control… he had succeeded!
