Chapter 246: The Blind Threat
Russel's body jolted slightly in fear. The low tone yet filled with threat from Leonard caused him to shiver.
'When did the Crown Prince become this frightening?' Based on his recollection, the Crown Prince was usually quite timid and held little to no presence.
How did he—an Imperial Guard Commander- become afraid of him?
"Hmm, Commander Russel?" Leonard raised an eyebrow when the latter remained silent.
"Tell me… how are you planning to resolve this? If you don't have the capacity to control the situation, then I'll just do it myself."
Since the enemy had already made this kind of move against him, it would be very impolite to not reciprocate the gift.
Moreover, the situation had long been escalated to the point where it could no longer be buried.
A royal princess of another continent being insulted in another continent's main capital city at that!
If news of this were to spread, then it would become the biggest joke and humiliation of said continent.
This point was something Russel understood, which was why he couldn't come up with a proper response. Never once did he imagine the general could be so foolish as to instruct his people to insult and degrade Eleanor.
'What a foolish General Henry!' Russel cursed him with all his might inwardly.
"Crown Prince, I'll relay the news to the Emperor." Russel decided to use the emperor as a shield to hopefully pacify the matter temporarily.
After all, General Henry ultimately worked for the Second Prince, Derrick Aldros. It would be terrible if things were to erupt and spread to more people.
With the emperor's name being used, Leonard was displeased.
'An Imperial Guard Commander sure is powerful.' He had already made it clear that he wished to target the mastermind behind. Yet Russel's intent was clearly to bury the hatchet.
Wasn't that just a blatant disregard of his Crown Prince status?
'Seems like I'll need to lend a hand.' From behind, Eleanor realized the situation wasn't favorable to Leonard.
Although Leonard made some headlines in Velastra, it still wasn't enough to do much in the capital.
"Imperial Guard Commander." Eleanor opened her mouth and spoke up.
"Yes, Princess Eleanor?" Russel turned to her and inquired.
"I came to the Valdoria Continent as a guest, but I was treated in such a manner. And now you also want to delay the matter. Could I infer that as the attitude of the Aldros Empire?" She asked softly.
Despite the softness in her tone, the lethality in her words was extremely high.
One wrong word from Russel and he could easily become the sinner of a Continental War.
'General Henry cannot be saved anymore.' Russel had done his best. If he didn't cut this general off now, then the Second Prince might be dragged in.
"Please don't misunderstand, Princess Eleanor." Russel stood up and bowed.
"One of my people recognized this deceased leader, and he seemed to be from General Henry's. I'll have my men arrest him immediately."
The nearby enforcement guards nearly cursed aloud at Russel's shamelessness.
What great timing in the discovery you got over there!
One of your people recognized them?
Why was your face so thick?
From start to finish, none of his subordinates had uttered a single sound!
It was clearly you who had recognized from the beginning, but decided to feign ignorance.
Needless to say, nobody was fooled by Russel's words. But still, no one exposed him because doing so would only be harmful to all parties.
"Since your men recognized him and the mastermind behind, then do make a move," Eleanor commented. She might not be on her home continent, but that didn't mean her prestige and honor could be trampled by mere ants.
Russel was silent, but he made a gesture for his people to adhere to the order.
"And these enforcement guards." Eleanor turned around with her wheelchair and smiled sweetly.
"People say ignorance isn't a crime, but that alone shouldn't be a justification to do whatever they want. Otherwise, won't people claim to be ignorant if they assassinated a Prince from the Aldros Empire, such as the second Prince?"
'What a scary strategist.' Russel thought to himself. The last remark effectively confirmed that she knew about the implication.
And she was threatening him to either capture the General honestly or risk an assassination attempt on the second Prince.
With Eleanor's reputation, Russel didn't doubt her capability and method to erase all traces of evidence while completing the deed.
"The Emperor wishes to meet the two of you. I'm sure Cobra knows the way, so do pardon me to get this matter done." Russel bowed and promptly excused himself from the scene.
When the enforcement guards saw the Imperial Guards leaving in a rush, almost as if they were being burned heavily, they were all fear-stricken.
"What do you want to do with them?" Leonard didn't even bat an eyelid at the enforcement guards.
Instead, he asked Eleanor about her thoughts on the matter.
After all, this incident arose because of him. He had responsibility for this farce.
"I don't know." Eleanor spread her arms wide and appeared to be helpless.
"What is your opinion on this matter?" She inquired.
"Please spare us, Crown Prince and Princess Eleanor!"
"Yeah, this is all that person's fault! He said that a few ignorant students from abroad were running amok in the main street and that we needed to teach them a lesson."
In the blink of an eye, the enforcement guards quickly pleaded for mercy and shifted all the blame to the deceased enforcement guard leader.
Since the enforcement guard leader was dead, he might as well take this sin to the grave alongside him.
Why should they be implicated as well?
They really didn't know the person they came to arrest was Leonard Lawson!
'Seems like this princess still wants to test me.' Leonard sighed inwardly. He was certain that Eleanor had already labeled these enforcement guards as dead people. Yet she feigned innocence and wanted him to decide.
