Progenitor Vampire: I Have Many Skills!

Chapter 690: Failed attempt

"Aghh..." A scream was heard from outside.

One of Lennon’s guards had been killed.

"Sir, they’re murderers!" shouted the other before being struck in the shoulder with a poisoned dagger.

Matthew had already acted.

’A weapon capable of piercing the armored glass of this carriage... These guys are very powerful,’ he thought.

He covered Lennon’s mouth to keep him from screaming and quickly exited through the door opposite the assassins’ position.

Lennon’s only guard, poisoned, immediately raised his sword and shield to defend him.

"Sir, run away, these guys are very powerful!" he shouted, gritting his teeth in pain.

Unfortunately, he had failed to protect him. He was not as mobile as these assassins, and he was also not well due to being poisoned.

A shadow quickly crossed one of his blind spots, while another came from behind. Both had the same target: Lennon.

Attacking from two different directions and at such high speeds, his bodyguard could do nothing. The weapons glinted in the assassins’ hands, making the bodyguard feel desperate and unable to do anything but watch helplessly as his master’s life passed before his eyes.

Soon, those weapons would be stained with his master’s blood.

He had failed.

He closed his eyes slightly and, with all his strength, tried to jump on the assassins, even though he was in a very bad position. At least he wanted to try until the end, to pay his debts.

CLANK*

A powerful sound of impact echoed as the two assassins were suddenly thrown in opposite directions.

Suddenly, the bodyguard’s body fell to the ground, rolling as it found no support to land on.

Then voices reached him...

"Young sir, be careful, they are professional assassins!" shouted Commander Maverick, raising a huge shield and sword.

Around Matthew and Lennon appeared a whole regiment of guards armed from head to toe, tasked with protecting Matthew.

He had thought about moving, but quickly noticed the presence of these men, so he decided to stay put. Seeing the power of each of them, he was surprised.

They swung their swords in front of them, searching for the bodies of the assassins, but their blows failed to achieve their goal, cutting through the air with agility but without hitting their target.

The assassins were very fast and took advantage of the night shadows to escape at an alarming speed, running in opposite directions to avoid being pursued.

Finally, a deathly silence descended on the surroundings. Lennon seemed to want to breathe as little as possible, as if he felt that making any kind of sound would put his life in danger.

The guards were trained to breathe without making a sound, ready for the next attack if necessary.

Matthew was the calmest because he had seen them leave.

"Thank you very much, Commander Maverick," Matthew said casually.

Maverick still didn’t relax; he remained in a firm stance, looking ahead, but nodded to Matthew.

"Have you gotten into trouble recently, young sir?" Maverick asked.

Matthew smiled. "I think I’m always in trouble," he said.

Maverick nodded. ’Being the son of the Lewis, many would want to kidnap him, but this time... these aren’t normal killers,’ he thought and looked at one of the men beside him, who nodded in response.

Maverick then took a deep breath and put away his sword, though he still held his shield facing forward, but he was able to turn to look at Matthew.

"You and Mr. Lennon have been attacked in our city, so we will give you an answer about this as soon as possible. For now, please return to the hotel so that there will be no further danger."

"Fine." Matthew didn’t even blink or protest at his suggestion; he walked over to the carriage and got back in. "Aren’t you coming, Mr. Lennon? The danger has passed."

Lennon looked at him from behind in shock. ’Isn’t he afraid?’ he thought.

Although given how easily he was able to remove a needle like that from one of them at a banquet with hundreds of eyes watching, he could understand. This young man was trained for all kinds of circumstances.

Lennon had no choice but to get back into the carriage after wrapping up the body of his guard, who had died instantly from a dagger through his neck.

They were escorted to the hotel immediately.

"Commander..." One of the elite guards approached Maverick with curiosity, but Maverick raised his hand to stop him.

"Don’t say it. The shadows are listening today. Raise the alert to maximum. If either of those two dies, we’ll be in trouble. I’ll send you reinforcements." Maverick wasted no time, turning around, jumping onto a rooftop, and suddenly disappearing into the city.

He ran at full speed, and at some point, his shield, sword, and heavy clothes had disappeared from him. He ran quickly in light clothing, like that of an assassin, moving perfectly among the shadows... he seemed to be chasing something or someone.

His movements were so fast that even the moonlight had difficulty revealing his body.

Soon, different weapons glinted in his hands. They were assassins’ daggers.

That an elite guard had the agility of an assassin but the strength of a tank was something absurd to see in these lands. But Maverick was no ordinary guard.

Publicly known as "Commander Maverick of the White Edge Central Guard," he holds the rank of 5-Star Commander, the highest rank achievable within the local armed forces.

But behind his name, face, and strength lies a different reality. One that envelops his name in a terrifying shadow that seems to grow astonishingly, covering every corner of the city and allied towns.

Captain of the Special Forces "Skilled Kill," of the Morgan Clan, that powerful Clan that rules these lands and stands at the top of the vampire world.

Maverick, The Shadow.

A man of whom legends abound since his childhood, for he has always been the most skilled assassin Skilled Kill has had since its creation.

A man so fast that he earned the nickname "The Shadow" simply because when he moves, his shadow cannot be seen.

He quickly reached his targets, which immediately caught his eye, and pounced on one of them.

His movement was so fast that even a professionally trained assassin was taken by surprise. Although he managed to dodge the attack aimed at his neck by throwing himself to one side, he could not completely avoid the damage.

From the right side of his chest to the left side, a wound appeared that bled profusely and almost revealed the heart behind the bones. The attack did not kill him, but it was enough to divert him from his path and send him crashing into a pile of dry boards in the corner of a house.

The attack proving ineffective, Maverick lost some speed, and his other target ran even faster, meaning he couldn’t catch up if he had to kill the other one.

His decision was quick. He threw his other dagger hard at the target that was running away and focused his attention on the one who had fallen.

"You are true professionals. No one in these lands is capable of dodging a deadly attack from me in that circumstance," Maverick said suddenly, stomping hard on the chest of the man he had wounded.
