Selene sat on the cold floor, her back pressed against the edge of the bed, staring at her trembling hands. Her mind was still spinning, trying to grasp the impossible.
She had died.
Selene had felt the core's energy consume her, felt the burning light that had swallowed her whole. She had made her final choice, knowing there was no coming back from it.
And yet, here she was—alive.
Selene sucked in a shaky breath.
Her last memory was still fresh in her mind, but that did not mean she knew what it was exactly.
She could still see Noah and Nora trying to run toward her, their figures blurred at the edges of her vision. But their expressions?
She couldn't remember.
Had they been angry?
Had they been afraid?
Had they... cared?
