Chapter 59: Something Odd
Damon was about to take Charlotte home when his phone rang. It was Diana. Her voice came fast and urgent. "We’ve captured the dog. But you need to get here now."
Damon frowned. "I’ll come after I take Charlotte home."
"There’s no time. Just bring her with you." Her tone left no room for argument. "If you don’t come now, you might not get another chance to see this dog alive."
His grip on the phone tightened. What the hell did that mean? Diana wouldn’t kill the rogue werewolf because Damon had warned her not to act carelessly again.
Which meant ... something was wrong.
Damon exhaled slowly, forcing himself to think. His gaze flickered to Charlotte. She looked tired, her body slightly curled into the seat, her lashes fluttering as if she was barely keeping herself awake.
He should take her home. That was the right thing to do.
But if he called Theodore, it would take time for him to get here. And leaving Charlotte alone at night—especially with rogue werewolves still lurking around Northbridge—wasn’t an option.
"What’s wrong?" Charlotte’s soft voice pulled him from his thoughts. "Did Diana lose the rogue werewolf?"
Damon shook his head. "No, she caught it. But she wants me there immediately."
Charlotte hesitated, then offered, "I can take a taxi home—"
