The Shadow of a Luna

Chapter 43 - 46

TYLER POV

After a few hours of sleep that day I got up and headed to the kitchen to get something to eat. We had another meeting with Ryan and his head warrior. We were going over tactics and I promised them again that I wasn’t leaving until we were sure that the Rogue attacks were over. But I didn’t know exactly how long I would be able to stay.

Tessa sounded weird on the phone this morning. Almost desperate. And she never sounds like that. But she accepted my alternative to have guards posted around the packhouse. That did sound like her. She would always accept an alternative instead of demanding that I come home and drop my responsibilities to someone else. She wasn’t like that.

It was playing on my mind all afternoon so I gave her another quick call before I went back out on patrol. She assured me that she got some rest during the day. But it was easier because everyone was awake and since I had called Carter, he made sure that there was always someone checking in on her. I know that Bella and Aria probably would have climbed into bed with her to watch TV while she slept.

I loved having Bella there as Cade’s mate. Tessa’s best friend who knows her better than anyone else and knows exactly how to calm her down when I’m not there. They are so suited for each other that if I wasn’t mated to Tessa, I’m pretty sure Bella would be. Alright, I need to stop thinking like that before I get too excited.

After I got off the phone with Tessa I felt more at ease because she sounded more calm and relaxed and then I was able to shift and head out on patrol.

It wasn’t until about midnight that we got the howling call of the attack on the northern boarder. We ran there with everything that we had and two warriors were holding one Rogue. But he was in human form. And I needed to shift in order to communicate with them and the was just grinning like a stupid lunatic.

"What is this?" I asked.

"He was alone. Apparently, he has a message for you." The warrior said. And they handed me another photo. I looked at it, but this time it was a photo of Tessa taken sitting outside the packhouse reading a book with her hand on her stomach. She was alone outside the packhouse.

"There’s a note on the back." The other warrior says so I turn it over.

Poor dumb werewolves. So predictable. You run to help others in need and you leave behind the ones that really need your help. You took the person I loved and now I took the person you love. So sorry.

"Tessa." I said almost in a panic. I shifted immediately and I ran with all my Alpha might straight back to my territory. I could feel Cade and Parker following closely behind but they couldn’t keep up.
