Chapter 352: Shot Himself
"Pft-" Gray couldn’t stop smiling even if he was out of Alistair’s office already. He was even in his room now, but he was still laughing and smiling on his head.
"Damn, I got a lot out of my 100k, didn’t I?" He muttered as he looked at the bag that was sitting in front of him. It was opened with all the files inside waiting to be taken out.
Gray was sitting at the edge of his bed. Across from him, Mara was sitting cross-legged. He wasn’t alone. He called her the moment he left Alistair’s office. Of course, he immediately had to share the good news about it.
"Woah..." That was the first word that Mara uttered since she entered the room 5 minutes ago. Her eyes were wide open as she looked at the treasure in front of her.
"Did you really get all of this?" Mara whispered in the air, completely
"This is just... insane."
Gray let out a small laughter. He wiggled his brows and tapped his chest.
"What do you think of me, huh?"
Mara chuckled at that. She couldn’t believe that Gray could still joke around.
"But where did you get this, huh?" Mara looked up at him and searched his face. "You told me you would tell me once I’m here."
"Well," Gray shifted his seat so he could fully face Mara now. "I actually got it from Alistair’s vault."
"What the fuck?"" Mara completely froze at that. She looked at him as if he was just joking.
"You’re joking."
"I wish I were."
"..."
Silence fell between them for a short amount of time. She slowly reached out for the bag and took out a folder.
"You’re a crazy one, aren’t you?" she muttered as she opened one folder. When she saw what was inside, her jaw immediately fell.
"What the fuck?" She cursed another time. It was the pictures that Gray had seen earlier.
"Pft... that’s exactly my reaction earlier." Gray muttered while already laughing.
"Hahaha these aren’t just small scandals!" she exclaimed out loud. "These are literally pictures I would see if someone is on the verge of falling from the graces of people."
"Not only that," Gray muttered as he looked for the folder that listed all the money that Alistair had received from big names. "Look at this one."
"Oh shit." Mara’s jaw fell to the ground for another time. Her eyes immediately brightened as if she was seeing stars. "Now, this is what I’m talking about." She muttered.
Mara started reading everything. Her interest and energy was in all time high, so it was no problem for her.
While she was doing that, Gray pulled out the rest of the folders. He also started looking at those that he hadn’t opened yet.
"Oh shit," In the middle of reading, Mara couldn’t even hide her excitement. The things she was reading silently were beyond what she could even imagine. She didn’t even know that a lot of people were involved in this one.
Her fingers quickly continued to flip through the pages. She was in so much awe.
Meanwhile, on the side, Gray just watched her silently. He found her reaction adorable, especially when she squealed or just cursed randomly whenever she found something unexpected or big.
While he was staring at her, she suddenly looked up to him.
"With this," she muttered with a firm voice. It seemed like her mind had now finally calmed down from the excitement that she could think like that already. "I think we already have a good and solid ground for your plan to work out."
"Yeah..."
"Then we can start filing it," Mara continued with a smile on her face.
Gray immediately nodded. "Yeah. We will immediately get to that tomorrow. I will ask Selena about whom should we contact.
Mara nodded. "That’s the perfect choice. We will really need Selena’s help on this one. This is big. We need the best lawyers we can find, and also a protection that will come from them."
"Yeah, you’re right." Gray had no reason to disagree with her. What Mara said was correct. They really need the best of the best if they want to succeed on this one. He guessed it wouldn’t be that bad to actually ask help for once
"But Gray, I have a question," Mara hesitantly muttered. She looked at him as if there was a big question in her mind that she wanted to let out.
"What?" Gray blinked and looked at her.
"Uh..." Mara’s brows furrowed.
"Won’t you need to return this?" She curiously asked.
"...Ah. Gray froze.
Right.
’Fuck...’ Gray stared at the folders again and realized what she meant.
"Right," Gray muttered before silencing for a second. "I guess I need to."
He leaned back slightly and ran his hand through his hair. He didn’t think of that at all when he was getting everything. He was too focused on getting everything that time that he failed to think about what he should do after.
"But we will also need everything," Mara muttered as she sighed. Just then, an idea formed in her mind.
"Right, Gray!" Mara’s eyes suddenly lit up. "We need to photocopy everything."
"Shit, you’re right," Gray looked at her.
"We should make copies of all of it tonight. Every single page," she continued. "And tomorrow, you need to bring this back to where it was. Exactly where you got them."
Gray let out a slow breath.
Now that’s the big problem.
"We can’t afford for Alistair to be suspicious of you," Mara added. "Since you’re the only one in his office today."
Gray nodded silently. Now that he was thinking of it, he couldn’t help but be problematic.
’Damn...’
He thought.
’Now I have another problem.’
Stealing them was easy because he was given the chance and opportunity. And also, the system helped him in the end. But having the same opportunity will be impossible, especially since he knew Alistair would be more conscious of his actions.
"This is hell..."
He just shot himself in the foot, did he?
