Chapter 318: Nice of You To Join Us
By the time Vivian got out of bed, Yohan had already prepared breakfast for both of them.
"Good morning," he said with a bright smile.
She took a look around as she walked closer. The entire house had been cleaned.
"Yohan, since when did you become so responsible?" she asked teasingly.
"what do you mean? I’ve always been responsible," he answered with a playful confused expression.
"It’s been a while since someone prepared breakfast for me." A faint smile appeared on her face as she sat down and began to eat.
Just then, his phone rang, and he checked to see that it was Helen.
He thought about ignoring it, but he knew he couldn’t keep doing that forever. Besides, it wasn’t like he had done anything wrong.
"Hello," he said with a sigh as he walked into his room to answer.
"Yohan, why have you been ignoring my calls?"
"I’m sorry. I’ve just been having a tough time."
Helen felt like scolding him, but she couldn’t bring herself to do it. Instead, she felt sorry for him because of what he had gone through.
"I understand," she said simply.
She knew taking a life was no easy feat. The effect it had on the mind was something that couldn’t be explained. She had experienced it once before, but for Yohan, this was his second time.
"Can you come by my house later? I have something important to discuss."
"Is it concerning what happened with Hatoru?"
"Not exactly, but it’s all connected. Even the Mayor is involved."
"The Mayor?" Yohan wondered.
"Yes. I’ll explain everything when you get here."
"Okay," he answered before ending the call.
Hearing the Mayor being mentioned wasn’t a big surprise since he had already heard the rumors about his relationship with Hatoru.
’But it definitely is concerning since I handed all my money over to the man’
He had stopped by the bank recently, and his funds had dropped below the one-million-dollar mark, making him a bit more paranoid.
He took out the book where he had written information about the future.
"Nationwide H-Virus Pandemic," he read aloud. It was the closest event he had written down, and it was set to happen in a few months,
"Okay... I’ll have to figure out how to make some money off this."
In the past, the virus hadn’t been anything too serious, but it had brought the world to a brief standstill, causing the rise and fall of many businesses.
A lot of people became billionaires during that period, and he planned on becoming one too. Until then, however, he had to make more money.
"I guess the Jade Island project should be completed soon, so I shouldn’t worry too much."
Even if he couldn’t trust the Mayor, he could trust the future.
’But what if Hatoru’s death does change something?’ he wondered.
Could the death of one man really change something that big?
He had to make sure that wouldn’t be the case.
A short while later, he took a cab to Gunjoo’s office.
When he arrived upstairs, Gunjoo wasn’t the only one there. Mason Blackfire and the rest of his organization’s top men were also present.
The moment he stepped inside, everyone’s attention fell on him as though they had been waiting for his arrival.
"Nice of you to join us, Yohan," Alfredo said with a wide grin.
Yohan looked at him before turning to Gunjoo.
"Why didn’t you tell me you had company when I called to say I was coming?"
"That’s because he works for me, not you," Mason said. The chair he sat in looked like it was on the verge of collapsing, barely able to support his weight.
"When I heard Hatoru’s men had taken you away that day, I thought you were just playing Gunjoo. But now I see I was mistaken. If I’d known you were this capable, I would’ve offered you a very good position the moment we met—"
"Thank you, but I’ll pass."
"You’ll pass?" Ivan shot to his feet and pulled out a handgun from under his coat.
"Are you fucking crazy?" he growled, pointing it at Yohan.
"Maybe we shouldn’t be doing that just yet," Gunjoo said as he almost sprinted over to stand between them.
He tried to lower Ivan’s hand, but it remained stiff.
"What do you think you’re doing? He just disrespected the boss. I can’t let something like that slide."
He looked at the others for their approval, but no one else seemed interested.
"Ivan, you should listen to Gunjoo this time," Graham added with a weary sigh, folding his arms across his chest.
Normally, he would’ve reacted almost the same way as Ivan, but he had seen everything Yohan did to those cops before going after Hatoru. Even with their guns, he had dropped them like flies.
"Alfredo..." Ivan tried to bring him into it, but the man simply shook his head.
That reaction seemed to have the greatest impact, judging by the subtle shift in Mason’s expression. Even with his usual hard face, it was noticeable.
Yohan couldn’t tell, but Mason was genuinely shocked to see Alfredo back away from a fight. Alfredo was always looking for an excuse to start trouble, but he always finished what he started, which was why everyone had so much confidence in his strength.
The only reason he’d avoid a fight was if there was actually a chance he might lose.
Mason scanned Yohan from head to toe. No matter how hard he looked, all he saw was a young man.
’But he didn’t even flinch when the gun was pulled on him...’
Most people thought he had reached the top through brute force alone, but strength was only one of his talents. Running an organization like this required intelligence.
Knowing whom to fight and whom to work with.
This was one of those moments.
"Ivan, stand down," he ordered. "I’m sure our friend here just needs a little convincing."
"Nope. I assure you that isn’t the case," Yohan said nonchalantly. "There’s no chance I’ll be joining your criminal organization."
