"Captain," a police officer called out from the car.
Benjamin Robinson turned his head to glance at him and commanded in a deep voice, "You guys head back first."
"Alright then."
The police officer nodded, gave Rachel Bailey a quick once-over, and finding her appearance unremarkable, withdrew his gaze after a brief glance, rolled up the car window, and drove away.
Onlookers who had gathered from afar began to disperse slowly, though women frequently looked back at Benjamin. Admiration filled their eyes. "If you have nothing else, I’ll be leaving," Benjamin said, his words precise and methodical as he turned his gaze back and scanned Rachel Bailey with his deep-set eyes.
Watching his ever-stern expression, Rachel Bailey couldn’t help but suspect he was incapable of smiling.
"Who said I’m fine? My whole body is still limp," Rachel complained, acting unreasonably, particularly annoyed with his tight, coffin face. "I don’t have the strength to walk. You’re responsible for taking me back. If it weren’t for you all, I wouldn’t have been scared stiff."
Benjamin didn’t reply. He simply raised his wrist to check his watch and looked around, as if intending to hail a taxi for Rachel.
A white Range Rover approached and stopped in front of Benjamin’s police car. The window rolled down, revealing Hansen Ruiz’s courteous, smiling face. He called out cheerfully, "Captain Benjamin."
