"Dad, Mom, Grandma," Glades Horne, with Julia Bluen by his side, calmly walked up to the couch. He greeted his parents first, then Chris Bluen and his wife.
Upon hearing Glades Horne address Chris Bluen and his wife as "Dad" and "Mom," Orlando Evans could no longer maintain her composure. She wanted to leave immediately, unwilling to witness this heart-wrenching scene.
Adele Horne, sitting beside her, quickly grabbed her hand to prevent her from standing up.
Adele Horne gave her friend a reassuring look.
Orlando Evans glanced at Glades Horne, then at Adele Horne. She struggled to suppress the pain in her heart and the anger threatening to erupt. She remained still, but when Adele Horne wasn’t looking, her seductive eyes flashed with resentful hatred.
"Come, Julia, sit next to Grandma," the elderly lady said with a beaming smile. She took Julia Bluen from Glades’s hand and pulled her to her side. Adele Horne had been sitting there. The old lady turned to her and said, "Adele, move over a bit to let Julia sit here."
Next to Adele Horne was Orlando Evans.
As the elderly lady asked Adele Horne to move over, Orlando Evans naturally had to move as well, which put even more distance between her and Glades Horne.
The crafty old lady’s seemingly amiable words subtly undermined Orlando Evans’s ambitions.
