Chapter 31: They Are Watching Me
After this little interlude, the remaining days at the farm were pretty uneventful.
Florence Fuller used the excuse that her cold hadn’t cleared up to move into the guest room on the second floor. She followed Old Mr. Gardiner wherever he went during the day, and Luke Gardiner hardly bothered her, so she enjoyed a few comfortable days.
On the day they left the farm, Old Mr. Gardiner sighed repeatedly in the car on the way back: "I wanted the couple to bond, but it ended up being like they were here accompanying me on a holiday."
Uncle Andre was driving and comforted Old Mr. Gardiner: "It’s all right; the young master and young mistress have a long future ahead. You can rest assured, sir."
Old Mr. Gardiner let out a deep sigh.
Florence Fuller and Luke Gardiner were still in the same car, provided by the old house, and drove straight back there. Florence took a call and needed to make a trip to the company.
She told the driver the address.
The driver glanced at Luke Gardiner in the rearview mirror.
"Then let’s go to your company first, and once you’re done, we’ll head back to the old house together."
Florence Fuller shook her head: "I won’t go back to the old house, just drop me off downstairs at the company."
Luke Gardiner raised an eyebrow: "Old Mr. Gardiner mentioned having dinner at the old house. If I go back alone, he’ll definitely think I’ve upset you and now you’re not coming back. He’ll beat me up for sure."
