Chapter 93:A New Members In The Family
The journey back was calm and peaceful. Nothing dangerous happened on the way. In fact, it was more comfortable than Roland expected. People from the nearby villages came out of their homes just to greet him.
Some even brought small gifts or food. They had heard about what he did—how he helped the poor and shared food with the needy. His actions had won their hearts.
Wherever he passed, people stood on the side of the road, waving and shouting his name with respect. Roland didn’t show much expression. He simply nodded and raised his hand in return, but deep inside, he felt a quiet sense of responsibility.
Amelia wasn’t sitting inside the carriage. She rode a horse next to Roland. Her back was straight, and her face calm. She wasn’t the type to stay in the background. Even after everything she had gone through, losing her arm and retiring from active duty, she still carried herself like a soldier.
The wind blew gently through her hair as she looked at Roland. "Did you really distribute food to all of them?" she asked, her voice curious but steady.
Roland gave a small nod. His face was serious, and there was no hint of pride or happiness.
"I did," he said. "But it’s nothing to brag about. It’s something all nobles should be doing. Sadly, that fool of a king doesn’t even care."
Amelia turned her head slightly, watching the villagers lined up along the road. Many were giving salutes. Some of the younger ones even shouted his name like he was a hero.
"This must have cost you a lot," she said softly, turning back to Roland.
Roland let out a quiet breath. "It did," he replied. "I have money, sure, but even then, it drained a good part of my reserve. But what else could I do? I either had to use force or win their trust."
