Chapter 6: Introduction To Magic
The last threads of my magic are rapidly depleting, the countdown in my mind ringing with a sense of urgency.
My heart beats heavily in my chest, the sound seemingly magnified in the silence of Lana's room.
'I should go now!'
I steal one last look at her, an unconscious apology flickering in my eyes, before turning towards the door.
Just as silently as I arrived, I slipped out of Lana's room.
The door creaks shut behind me, the soft click echoing loudly in my ears.
'Did she notice the door? Well, it doesn't matter!'
Right now, only my escape is important.
The hallway stretches ahead, the torches casting long, dancing shadows.
The cold stone under my bare feet seems to chill my nerves, spurring me into action. With a burst of adrenaline, I push off, my feet padding softly against the stone as I begin to run.
The portraits of my ancestors blur in my peripheral vision as I dart past them. The flickering torchlight illuminates my path, the shadows dancing on the walls, matching my racing heartbeat.
