Chapter 43: I’ll Take You Back
Jessie was amused by his reaction and couldn’t help but tease, "Mr. Harper, you can just tell me if you want to hold my hand. There’s no need to do it this way."
Only then did Kevin misunderstand her intention and quickly let go, responding in a low voice, "I was just..."
She noticed the tips of his ears turning red and couldn’t help but smile as she placed the red velvet box in his hand. "Actually, what I said today was a bit out of line. I apologize."
He was a bit surprised by her attitude, thinking she was, in fact, a reasonable person.
"But I don’t need this necklace, so return it first tomorrow. This necklace doesn’t serve any purpose for me. You might as well buy some meat instead—it would be more practical.”
With that, she buckled her seatbelt and said, "Let’s hurry home. It’s late, and we have to go to my mom’s for dinner tomorrow. I’m a bit hungry, and there’s not much left in the fridge, so let’s stop by the supermarket on the way."
He looked at the box in his hand in slight confusion. "Do you have any idea how much this necklace is worth?"
Jessie shook her head indifferently. "No matter how much it costs, it’s your money. Besides, have you ever seen me buy jewelry? Mr. Harper, although you can spend your money as you want, I think it’s worth mentioning that we should spend wisely and put our money where it counts!"
She didn’t want to say much more, lest he think she was eyeing his money again.
Hearing this, Kevin didn’t say anything more and quietly put the box away. He glanced at her expression from the corner of his eye and noticed that she genuinely didn’t care.
If she was as he suspected—a schemer—she would have readily accepted the necklace, but she didn’t.
This realization darkened his mood somewhat. Had he truly misjudged a good person with his own petty assumptions?
