Chapter 336: _Weaponizing Chaos
Kyren’s POV
*****
Alright, alright... yes.
He’s responsible for the accusations made by the witch immigrants, as well as their exodus from Arcadia. Well, barely anyway.
He didn’t have to do much. All he provided was the charm. Farrell was the one who took it to the captured Arcadian city of Runecrest, unleashing the charm on the civilians they’d left imprisoned.
The charm had left one thought in their mind so powerful that it nearly consumed every other thing. Driving them to want to share it across the continent.
And this thought? Quite simple.
"The High Matron is Arcadia’s enemy." His voice played somewhere at the back of their heads, pushing their actions. "She’s the Dark Hand’s leader."
Just like that... hundreds of captured witches were made to flee the city, allowed to pass through the Dark lands through various means before arriving at Lunaria’s borders.
Which is how they arrived at this situation.
Watching the effects of this charm in action via the news in the war room.
"Your majesty," one of the Elders whose name he keeps forgetting got on his feet. "You have to do something. If truly witches are trooping into our domain, it can lead to unrest."
"Your citizens," another one chimed, "will be restless. Bothered by the possibilities of Arcadia stretching its claws toward us next. For harbouring citizens who preach blasphemy against their High Matron."
Kyren stopped himself from rolling his eyes.
Please.
He took that into account and the chances of his mother directly attacking Lunaria because of this were slim. Not with Lucian’s new celestial sovereign power and his shifting unspoken support to the Dark Lands.
No—the actual target she’d go for might just be the Dark Lands. He could calculate the probability of Arcadia launching a hostile takeover to reclaim Runecrest. Or push further into his territory.
"This meeting is dismissed." Lucian declared, rising from his seat. "I’ll go see what the situation is like at the border cities. In the meantime..."
His head turned to Delta Reina and Gamma Drax. "... You two prepare our military for anything. Not just in case Arcadia attacks but in case these immigrants prove a threat to our stability."
They both nodded as Lucian spun around, heading for the war room doors. Elian was about to get up as well when Kyren connected magically with his mind.
’Tell Lucian not to worry much.’ he said casually. ’I made those witches react this way.’
No further explanations. No reveals on what he planned next. Just that.
Then he stood up, sweeping back his cloak. His eyes lingered on the faces of those present around the table one last time—at the grim lines wrinkling their brows and fear in their eyes.
As clueless as they were right now, they all knew. This war was just about to get messier.
"Lucian, wait." Elian’s worried tone got him on the move, his steps trailing behind them.
They stepped into the hallway, feet on the marble floor heavy. Lucian didn’t wait for Elian who struggled to keep up, calling his name again.
"Lucian, are you seriously going to the border cities right now?"
"Of course." The stubborn Alpha King gave a flat response, not even glancing back.
Elian exchanged a look with Kyren who only shrugged, watching his mate chase after his cousin yet again.
Kyren placed his arms lazily behind his back as they kept on moving through the hallway.
For someone who still insisted he was nearly powerless... the Omega had a habit of shaking entire rooms with a few words. Earlier tonight he had watched seasoned council members fall silent under Elian’s voice alone.
Fascinating.
"If you go, what next?" Elian questioned when they got in front of an Ascension platform. "Amara will still be unfazed. Until we have concrete proof that she’s the Dark Hand’s leader—"
"Her almost killing us back in the Arcadian capital was proof enough." Lucian fired before Elian could finish. His tone was calm. Yet his silver eyes flared with a blood thirsty light. "Enough is enough. Lunaria can’t continue to remain on the sidelines."
The Ascension platform doors slid open, and the Alpha King stepped inside. That’s when Elian’s shoulders dropped, a sharp exhale leaving his mouth. As if making a decision.
"Kyren said he’s behind the Arcadian migration."
Those words managed to make Lucian freeze on his tracks.
Kyren’s expression was blank as his cousin looked over his shoulder, eyes pinning on Elian first before sliding to him.
"What?"
With a sigh, Kyren went ahead to explain how he’d planned this from the start. On how he’d considered just slaughtering all the captured citizens to force his mother’s hand but then decided they could be more... useful.
By the time he was done, Lucian had pivoted to face him fully now, the glow of the Ascension platform illuminating just how exasperated he was.
"You manipulated the free will of innocents." The Alpha King mumbled. "Kyren—"
"Spare me," the Rogue King snorted out a dry laugh. "The charm’s effects should wear off within a few days. But the truth of who their ruler truly is? That will stick forever."
For several seconds, a suffocating silence fell in the quiet hallway. At least for the rest of them anyway. Kyren breathed just fine.
Eventually, Lucian found words again. "So what now?"
"What now?"
"Yes. What do you plan to do next?" Lucian’s head tilted. "What happens when Amara traces this back to you and decides to apply more force? Reclaiming the lost city and more."
The Rogue King raised his chin decisively. "You leave that to me, dear cousin." A pause. "As you said in the war room, be ready for anything. If there’s one pattern my mother is good at, it’s weaponising chaos to her advantage. Gods know whom she’ll come for after this."
Lucian’s jaw flexed with clear frustration. But he didn’t make any more complaints.
Instead, he inched back into the Ascension platform, nodding at Elian. "Are you coming with me?"
Elian gave Kyren one last look before joining him in the lift. The metal doors closed, leaving the Rogue king alone in the hallway.
In silence. With his thoughts.
Slowly, he scanned his gaze through the hallway, making sure no one else was there. He activated his communication bracelet, a faint red light glowing on it.
"Farrell," he started with a wolfish rise of his lips. "Phase two."
The real war was only just beginning.
