Chapter 571-He Escaped The North And Came With Us
Clementine:
Flashback:
Today, my mother, my little brother, and I had somehow pissed off my father again.
Sometimes, we didn’t even know what mistake we had made.
It just happened that my father would suddenly get angry. Today was no different.
I think my mother had said something about him setting us free forever, and he didn’t like that.
That was why he sent us off in a car with the warriors.
We were told we couldn’t question anything.
My father was coming in a separate car with my stepmother.
They had left Leysa at home because my father avoided showing her such traumatizing things.
"Where are we going?" I asked my mother, my voice breaking, wondering if Daddy was taking us somewhere to punish us or if he was finally going to set us free like we had asked.
My mother placed her hand on my shoulder and gave it a gentle squeeze before her eyes turned watery.
Then she looked down at my baby brother sleeping in her arms.
He was so little, and he had no idea that the world he had opened his eyes to was a messed-up place.
"I hope he is setting us free," my mother murmured, sniffling.
There were times when I wanted to ask my mother where my other grandparents were.
Why had her parents never asked about her?
Why were we controlled so easily?
Why was there no one to stand up for us?
"But..." I began, then paused.
Because I noticed my mother had gotten a little excited looking at the road, as if she knew where it led.
"Does this road lead to your home?" I asked.
As soon as I asked, my mother turned to look at me.
"What makes you say that?" she asked, a tear rolling down her eye.
"Because you’ve never looked this excited about a road," I replied.
We had become so lonely that we had no one except each other.
That was why we watched each other’s every expression.
We had come to understand each other very well.
"Actually, this place does lead to my parents’ home," she said. "Although none of them are alive. But I know my people will support me."
She had only just said that when her smile began to fade, as if the weight of her words had finally hit her.
"No," she murmured, shaking her head as she looked out the window.
"What happened? Aren’t you happy to see your parents?" I asked, confused.
Her sudden change in expression shocked me.
"My home is no longer there. Whatever is left is not a place anyone can call home," my mother said, her voice filled with shock and concern.
Her words hit me too.
If her home wasn’t here, then why the hell had Papa brought us here?
Then suddenly, the car stopped.
My mother pulled me closer, wrapping one arm around me while holding the baby with the other, as if she was trying to make sure Papa wouldn’t take me out of the car.
But when my father made up his mind, he always followed through.
First, he stepped out of the car.
Then my stepmother followed.
After that, he gestured to the warriors to drag my mother out.
As soon as the door opened, chaos erupted.
"No, no, please, why did you bring us here?" my mother screamed immediately.
It was all wooded area with some fences.
"Let go of my mother!" I shouted, trying to hit the warrior.
However, the warrior snatched my baby brother from my mother and threw him into my lap.
I quickly caught him before his head could hit anything.
Then it was as if my father was enjoying it.
He lit a cigarette, watching my mother scream and struggle to get back into the car.
"If you don’t want us to take your daughter out as well, just listen to us," the warrior warned.
He knew that was the only way to make my mother surrender.
And just as he had anticipated, she did. She suddenly stopped fighting.
She looked at me and gave me a broken smile.
"No matter what, do not come out of this car," she warned, slowly letting go of the door as the warrior dragged her away.
"No, Mother, please don’t go!" I screamed, holding my brother, shaking with fear and pain.
Seeing my mother’s resistance, I understood that whatever this place was, it was dangerous.
After that, the warrior slammed the door shut.
Four warriors stood in front of each door, blocking any way out.
Even then, I could still see everything through the front window, everything that was happening outside.
The warrior dragged my mother toward my father.
The disgusted look on my stepmother’s face made anger rise inside me.
She always acted as if it was my mother’s fault that she existed.
I hated my stepmother with all my might.
I saw my father grab my mother by the arm.
My heart started pounding rapidly.
I wanted to save her, but I was, after all, just a miserable no one.
Then I saw my father point toward the fence.
It looked like he was threatening her.
Because right after that, they started forcing my mother toward the fence.
My mother began to resist.
Then I remembered something my mother had said a few minutes ago, that this place was where her parents’ home used to be.
So why was she so afraid of going there?
Or was it what she had said later, that no one was there anymore?
Was that what was scaring her?
All of this went on for an hour and twenty minutes.
They kept dragging my mother, sometimes by her hair, sometimes threatening her in different ways, and she kept crying.
Finally, their entertainment ended, and they allowed my mother to come back.
They went and sat in the car first, while my mother was dragged back and thrown inside.
As soon as she was pushed into the car, she took my baby brother from me and hugged him tightly.
Then she turned to me and hugged me.
"What did daddy say?" I asked, rubbing her arm to comfort her.
"He said that if I ever demanded to be free, he would throw me across the fence," she replied.
That day, I realized that whatever was behind that fence was a terrifying place.
And I would do everything I could to never go there.
Ever.
End Of Flashback.
I was not afraid of what was across that fence.
Coming back from the north to the mainland and seeing Haiden and Fauna again, I didn’t know if we should be happy or concerned.
But of course, it meant that Yorick and Mariana had been left behind all by themselves.
But then it seemed as if there was more trouble going on.
"Haiden, what do you mean?" Ian asked him anxiously.
The fear on Haiden and Fauna’s faces was not ordinary. It felt as if something terrible had happened.
"There’s a meeting going on outside between the council leaders, and they’re saying that the Headmaster was dragged toward the North by his evil son," Haiden explained.
As soon as Haiden said this, we relaxed slightly because, in my opinion, it was shocking news that the Headmaster had been kidnapped and killed but it was something we already knew.
I saw the sadness return to Ian’s eyes, and he lowered his head.
"Actually, Haiden, we already know about this. The Headmaster risked his life to save his son," I said, placing my hand on Ian’s shoulder.
I knew Ian could not speak about this, so I had to step in for him.
"Oh," Fauna responded, nodding before looking back at Haiden.
"Wait, a sacrifice? Like, is he—-" Fauna paused, trying to understand how she could say it better.
"Where is the Headmaster now?" she asked us again.
As soon as she repeated the question, I took a deep breath because it was not easy for me to say it again.
"Sadly, neither the Headmaster nor Zian survived. The Headmaster took his own life, taking Zian with him," I replied."What?" Both Haiden and Fauna snapped, tears starting to form in their eyes.
I mean, of course, Haiden knew the headmaster more, so it affected him more.
As for Fauna, she was just generally a very timid girl and very emotional too.
Ian had told me that she had spent some time with the Headmaster, which was probably why she had grown close to him.
But I knew that we needed to talk about something else.
"What kind of meeting?" I asked abruptly, changing the topic because I did not want Ian to remain disturbed any longer.
"I don’t know. I’m not sure, but there’s another problem," Haiden added, and our anxiety rose again.
"What is it now?" I asked, confused.
"We saw a monster around the clouds," Fauna said, and everyone immediately turned attentive.
With those words, she managed to make everyone’s jaw hit the floor.
