Chapter 254: A Little Accident
Though he was still new behind the wheel, Rhodes managed to drive the magic four-wheeler all the way back to Magnolia without incident.
The vehicle is operated using an SE Plug—a wrist-mounted conduit that allowed the driver to feed it magic power. The downside? It consumed magic at an alarming rate.
Still, Rhodes drove with determination.
The vehicle functioned more like a magically enhanced go-kart than a car. As long as the magic power kept flowing, speed adjustments were simple. The joystick was a little awkward, but otherwise, it felt like steering a giant toy.
Mira had originally planned to take over the drive halfway through. But seeing how much Rhodes was enjoying himself, and with his blue buff helping him sustain his magic, she let him have his fun.
Even so, after experiencing how quickly the vehicle drained magic, Rhodes found himself growing even more concerned about Mira.
She had pushed herself so hard getting to them, speeding nonstop all that way. Just how worried had she been?
So when they finally parked and removed their SE plugs, Rhodes turned to her and, without a word, pulled Mira into a tight hug.
"Hey?" Mira blinked, startled by the sudden embrace. But she quickly sensed the emotion behind it.
She gently patted his back. "Easy. Your shoulder still hasn't fully healed, you'll strain it."
Rhodes buried his face in her hair and whispered, "I'm already holding the best painkiller there is."
