Chapter 238 - 238: Have the heads of your clans healed?

"What motivates an assassin is a target and high reward for a job. So, we only need to provide those two, but the reward would be tempting enough to push them to action." Zane's eyes shone with realization, then he gave Viktor an approving nod for coming up with such a plan, but he still had thoughts and asked.

"Wouldn't they find it suspicious when the said target proves impossible to kill while their people are dying on the job?"

Viktor sat on the pile of gold bricks, tapping a finger against his chin as a chilling smile curled his lips. "That's where things get interesting, we get the bigger fish, their elites, and the attention of the higher ops." He paused, letting his words sink in before continuing.

"The elites will see it as a challenge, while the higher ops will be tempted by the increased reward and their need to investigate." Zane's eyes flashed with excitement at his words, and he wanted to carry out their plans immediately, but he had to wait until they got back.

"We'll take care of that, don't worry about the elites – they'll meet their end at my hands," Zane said with a cold, confident tone, convinced of his own strength.

"Alright, I need to take a picture of these gold bricks; the sight alone is enough to tempt the dead," Viktor said as he tapped his hologram screen. The golden glow emanating from this mountain of gold was blinding him.

'No wonder Cyra could buy an island and even rebuild it with quality materials and employ workers with high pay.' These thoughts raced through his mind, and he whistled, feeling it was incredible that he was dating a wealthy woman.

If he knew about the gold mines spread across space, he would faint from shock.

He took the pictures carefully, capturing all angles. He wasn't concerned that someone might question the picture's authenticity; they were free to verify it if they wanted, and he had nothing to hide.

"Do you know how many gold bricks are here?" He turned to Zane, curiosity evident in his eyes.

Zane shook his head in disappointment, but he would ask Cyra later.

"Hmm, I should give half of the gold bricks as a reward for assassinating…wait, who are we using as a target?" Viktor asked, realizing they needed a real, believable target.

They grew quiet, each absorbed in thought, before Zane tapped Viktor's shoulder and pointed at himself.

"I'll make a good target. The dark organization should have my information since I'm related to Cyra. And you can pose as a wealthy young master who wants to remove me from the picture to get Cyra. There's a reasonable motive, and the Dark Organization wants to deal with me to get to Cyra in a win-win situation," Zane analyzed, ignoring Viktor's suspicious expression.

"Are you sure you're not secretly getting back at me for linking him to those cruel first husbands in dramas?" Viktor asked, observing Zane's expression, wondering if, out of all the reasons Zane could think of, it was that he was a jealous, wealthy young master out to get him for Cyra.

"You are overthinking. Am I not the perfect target? Take a picture of me; you need to post it as soon as we return, or we should do it now." Zane waved Viktor's suspicion away and struck a standard pose, signaling for Viktor to take his picture.

Viktor shot Zane one last suspicious look before setting up to take his picture.

Cyra returned to see the scene and arched her brow in question, but both of them ignored her and whispered words she couldn't understand, their heads almost touching as they looked at Viktor's hologram screen.

Meanwhile, on the supernatural island, the elder of the vampire clan, who had just finished a call with Cyra, immediately sprang to her feet and rushed out of the room to prepare for Cyra's arrival and to send for an aircraft to pick her up.

"Everything has to be perfect. You make sure to clean the best room, and you send someone to pick up our queen with respect. Also, bring the freshest blood from her. If anyone screws up, I'll rip their hearts out!" She gave orders rapidly, not even taking a breath.

Everyone felt whiplash from her orders, needing a few seconds for her words to sink in. Their hearts raced with fear and anticipation at the thought of Cyra's arrival—her last visit had left an unshakable impression, she defeated all the clan leaders and even pushing some to the brink of death.

Without delay, an aircraft flew to Cyra's map location. Tension filled the air as soon as the others realized Cyra was visiting; some of the women's bodies trembled instinctively, as if their brains were helping them recall the pain of nearly having their limbs torn from their bodies.

They repeatedly warned their clan members not to get on Cyra's bad side, and it started to sound like a broken record in their minds. Then came the agonizing wait for Cyra to arrive. The entire island was silent; even the arrogant young master and the master were cautious. Only those who weren't here to witness the battle were skeptical, but the cautious mood of the others slowly began to influence them. Google seaʀᴄh novel(ꜰ)ire.net

Cyra, unaware she had triggered such a reaction, stood on a mountain peak waiting for the aircraft to arrive. Viktor and Zane stayed in her space—it was too cold, and the terrain wasn't safe enough to keep them with her.

Forty minutes passed, and her ears caught the sharp blade beating, as she looked ahead to see a silver aircraft flying toward her.

Cyra didn't need to call out; a red dot appeared on the control screen, signaling her location. A light shone on Cyra as the aircraft lowered.

Lilly pressed a button, and steel machines shaped in a straight line, wide enough to accommodate Cyra, slowly stretched out and stopped in front of her. She climbed onto it, and it retracted slowly back to the aircraft. Cyra didn't have to move herself.

The door closed sharply as soon as Cyra entered. "Good morning, Mrs—" Lilly nearly screamed in shock when she saw two men suddenly appear beside Cyra.

"Hello," Viktor greeted her in a friendly tone, knowing their sudden appearance must have scared the girl, causing her to pale—he assumed, unaware that it was the normal skin tone for vampires.

"Umm…hello." Lilly returned the greeting awkwardly but quickly composed herself, recalling the warnings her mother drilled into her before she set out.

"This is my husband, Zane, and my fiancée, Viktor," Cyra introduced. Noticing the girl was stiff and cautious, she wasn't planning to pick a fight on the island, or she might—she thought it was a good chance to let off some steam after showing Zane and Viktor the beautiful sights of the island.

"Have the heads of your clans healed?" Cyra's question made Lilly freeze in place. She gulped nervously, almost breaking out in cold sweat, unsure if she should tell the truth or not. She felt a crushing weight of pressure, sensing her answer would determine the fate of those clan heads.
