Chapter 39
Aria’s POV.
My eyes snapped to the door, my heart pounding so hard it felt like it would burst through my chest.
The knock echoed in the quiet room, sharp and sudden, making my breath hitch. My mind raced, replaying the scene in the hall; Celeste’s venomous words, "Well, guess who isn’t supposed to be Luna!"
Her threat to expose me as the wrong Luna, the gasps of the maids, and Seraphina’s silent entrance, her blank face haunting me.
Who was at the door? Seraphina, ready to spill my secret? Celeste, back to twist the knife? Or Kael, demanding answers? My hands trembled, gripping the sheets, my wolf Kyra whining, her fear matching mine.
The knock came again, louder, and a voice followed, soft but clear. "Luna?"
My shoulders relaxed, my breath easing as I recognized the voice, my maid, Lila.
My heart slowed, but my nerves were still tight, my body tense. "Come in," I said, my voice shaky but firm, my eyes fixed on the door as it creaked open.
Lila stepped in, her apron neat, her brown hair tied back, two other maids behind her, their arms full of fabric.
Lila held a dress, deep blue and shimmering, her eyes bright with a small smile.
"Luna, Beta Brian sent this for you," she said, her voice soft, her hands offering the dress. "For the charity event tonight."
I walked over, my bare feet cold on the stone floor, my hands reaching for the dress, its fabric soft under my fingers.
