My Bratty Wife

Eleanor held Ryan close, a satisfactory smile spread across her lips. She was about to lean in and kiss him when his words stopped her.

"Yes, you’re right," he said, his voice soft. "You had to listen to your father. I don’t think you’re wrong, but if I were you, I wouldn’t have made the same decision. You could have found a better way."

Eleanor was taken aback by the sudden change in Ryan’s narrative.

Ryan’s thoughts drifted to Suzy. "No matter how much she feared death and abandonment," he mused, "she would never plead or beg to someone she feared. She faced her fears head on. She wouldn’t have thrown anything precious to her away, even if it meant dying to keep her freedom from being taken away from her. If she had already lost something, she wouldn’t fall apart. She would always find a way to recover on her own. And that’s what I admire most about her."

His voice sounded cold as he continued, "So listen carefully. Marrying whoever he may have been the best for you and your family, but for me, getting pregnant for him was the worst thing that could not be undone. This is a disgusting past that cannot be recovered and one I would like to recover from. We haven’t seen each other for a while, so we haven’t resolved our relationship. But for me, it’s a relationship that ended a long time ago."

"He died and I had a miscarriage. His family sent me back because I didn’t...." She was interrupted by his words.

" That doesn’t erase the fact you were another man’s wife. You two got married and consummated your marriage." He said , cutting her words short.

Eleanor wanted to speak, to disagree with what he was saying. But he held up his hands to silence her, his voice cold and final. "I have been avoiding responding to your letters because I didn’t want to see you again," he continued. "But it is better this way.

He paused then let out a sigh. "I guess it is inevitable that we will end up like this, face to face. Our relationship ended the day you left, so it’s better we both go out separate ways."
