Chapter 679 - 677: She’s So Important [4 Updates]
In a helpless situation, Christopher Scott had to dial Sophia Bennett’s phone number, hoping to use Bluetooth to persuade her to slow down the car.
However, that girl Sophia actually hung up on him, the first time she had ever done so to his call.
Christopher was both amused and annoyed, even doubting whether Sophia truly liked him. He confessed to her, shouldn’t she be happy? Why was she avoiding him?
Christopher didn’t know that although Sophia had chased many boys, very few had pursued her. She was terrified of confessions from unfamiliar men, and facing the confession from her crush was naturally nerve-wracking; she couldn’t believe it for the life of her.
Happiness came too fast, and Sophia hadn’t had a chance to adjust or change roles.
Even if she was still pursuing Christopher, she would probably be scared if he suddenly agreed to be with her. Don’t be fooled by her bravado; she’s actually very timid.
Inside her car, Sophia frowned as she stared at Christopher calling her repeatedly, her brows furrowing in frustration, thinking, why won’t this dream wake up, why is he still looking for her?
She thought she had fallen asleep at the bar and that was why she was dreaming all these bizarre things.
She took a deep breath, imagining Maya Spencer sitting beside her. But when she opened her eyes and glanced sideways, the passenger seat was still empty; Maya wasn’t beside her.
Sophia looked at the phone with Christopher’s call coming through again, gritted her teeth, and muttered to herself, "It’s just a dream, why am I scared to answer his call?"
If he started saying those strange things again, she figured, she’d just curse him a bit to snap him out of it.
So, she answered the call, trembling and asked, "Do you need something?"
Sophia wanted to talk normally with him, but she was just too nervous and didn’t know how to communicate. She didn’t even dare to call him by name, instead directly asking him if he needed anything.
Christopher sighed in relief when Sophia finally answered, calmly saying, "Sophia, slow down your car, it’s too dangerous, I’m right next to you."
Sophia listened, turned her head to glance at him, and saw his car was indeed beside hers.
She frowned tightly, involuntarily pressed the gas pedal a bit more, and the speed instantly soared.
Christopher, alarmed, sweated, fearing she might lose control of the wheel and crash off the overpass.
He said tensely, "Sophia, slow down. If you crash from the overpass, I’ll crash down with you."
"..." Sophia was speechless upon hearing his threat, thinking the dream was pretty sweet, with him willing to die together with her.
From the car next to her, Christopher, frustrated by her silence, quickly added, "Sophia, you’re not dreaming. Everything that happened was real; if we crash, we might never see each other again, and you won’t see Maya. You haven’t dated anyone, right? If you die this way, would you be content?"
"As for my feelings for you, if you don’t like me, just reject me, like I did to you back then; but please stay calm, and a car crash would look awful, all bloody and gruesome."
Christopher’s words sounded as if he were talking to someone contemplating suicide.
Sophia pouted, puzzled, asking, "I don’t want to die, I want to live well."
He was right; she hadn’t dated before, and there were so many delicious foods she hadn’t tried, and she didn’t know what ’intimacy’ felt like. How could she be willing to die? She was just nervous, thinking he was overreacting.
But when her eyes fell on the speedometer, she was stunned—it was at 140 km/h, an insane speed for city overpasses, practically asking for death!
She quickly lifted her foot off the accelerator, slowing the car down.
Watching her slow down the car, Christopher’s heart finally relaxed a bit.
He continued, "Don’t exceed 60 km/h, I’ll go back with you."
It was then that Sophia started coming back to reality, realizing everything that happened was real. Christopher really seemed to say he wanted to date her, recalling his scent and presence.
If it had all been a dream, how could she feel his presence?
Sophia took a deep breath as she saw the car’s display still showing the call with him, raised her right hand and gently patted her face, saying, "Christopher, you go ahead and do your thing! I’ll drive slower and get home safely."
His pursuit made her feel uneasy, but unlike before, she was no longer as bewildered, at least realizing that now was reality, not a dream.
Remembering his lingering kiss brought a shy smile to her lips, as she kept patting her brow with her right hand, muttering, "Sophia, what to do? You seem to have really caught him, and heaven hasn’t wasted your effort."
She glanced at his vehicle parallel to hers, unable to hide her smile, feeling embarrassed, occasionally stealing smiles and patting her cheeks.
Her face blushing brightly.
After all this chaos, her mind finally settled, suddenly feeling abundantly happy, reminiscing about the kiss earlier, regrettably not remembering clearly due to being dazed, she felt remorseful.
She raised her right hand to smack her forehead, laughingly scolding herself, "Sophia, how pathetic, can’t even handle such things; if Christopher makes a bigger move, what will you do?"
She smiled after scolding herself, nearly ecstatic, forgetting she hadn’t hung up the phone.
Christopher, hearing her muttering through the phone, concernedly asked, "Sophia, what are you saying?"
His voice made her realize she hadn’t ended the call.
She hurriedly said, "Nothing, nothing, I’m hanging up!!"
After expressing those words, she rushed to hang up, immediately raising her hand to slap her forehead, chiding, "Sophia, is there water in your brain? How dare you mutter here without hanging up the call?"
"Haha..." she laughed after chastising herself.
Well, she admitted, being cared for by Christopher was very reassuring, especially when he threatened her; it made her feel important, no longer invisible.
