Chapter 673 - 671 Dream and Reality [3 Updates]
Thinking back now, Christopher Scott really liked Sophia Bennett when she acted infatuated around him, loved how she shamelessly lay beside him, staring and smiling at him foolishly.
At the bar, Sophia Bennett lazily lay on the counter, staring unblinkingly at Maya Spencer, and said, "Maya, it’s so boring. Why don’t we go home and watch TV?"
"Oh, come on! Ella hasn’t arrived yet. If we leave early, what will she do later?" Maya responded nonchalantly, rolling her eyes at Sophia.
Sophia’s little schemes, Maya knew them clearly.
Now, this girl is not chasing Christopher Scott anymore, so she naturally feels empty inside and doesn’t know what to do, hence the boredom.
If she were to stare at Christopher nonstop, like before, she could do it without batting an eye for 24 hours, but unfortunately, they have no fate together.
However, Maya admired Sophia’s endurance, being in the same space as Christopher but genuinely not looking at him anymore.
Remembering Christopher, Maya couldn’t help but think of his inexplicable smile just now. Her gaze naturally shifted towards the sofa, searching for Christopher’s shadow, only to see him walking towards the bar step by step.
When Christopher walked closer to the bar and sat on the chair beside Sophia, Maya’s gaze froze. Her sixth sense told her that Christopher was acting very strangely today.
Before, wherever Sophia was, Christopher would stay far away, but today he sat next to Sophia on his own accord, which was too surprising.
Sophia was sitting facing Maya, so she didn’t notice that Christopher was sitting behind her.
She saw Maya’s strange expression, slowly sat up straight, turned around unhurriedly, and saw Christopher sitting beside her, very close, and to top it off, he was looking at her with a warm smile, unlike his usual serious expression.
Suddenly, Sophia was bewildered, thinking she was seeing things. How could Christopher possibly be sitting next to her?
During this year or so of chasing after Christopher, he avoided her like the plague. Even if their eyes accidentally met, he would swiftly and coldly look away.
Sophia felt she was dreaming, an unbelievable dream, thinking she might be drunk, but she hadn’t drunk at all tonight.
Sophia took a deep breath, blinked her big eyes, and when she opened them again, Christopher was still sitting beside her, smiling warmly and looking at her intently, leaving Sophia frightened and dumbfounded.
Watching the girl’s frightened expression, Christopher’s smile grew brighter. This was the second time he had smiled at Sophia, and so brilliantly at that.
Sophia still remembered the first time Christopher smiled at her, also in this bar when they first met.
At this moment, Sophia felt she was sleepwalking. If this were a dream, she’d rather never wake up.
If she couldn’t pursue Christopher in real life, then she’d live in a dream.
In her dreams, Christopher would smile at her, beautifully and handsomely.
Christopher saw the girl staring blankly at him, propped his left hand on the bar, rested his cheek on it, then reached out with his right hand and ruffled Sophia’s short hair, smiling as he asked, "What’s wrong? Dumbfounded?"
When Christopher’s warm hand ruffled Sophia’s head, she was shocked, her legs went weak, and she nearly slid off the high stool, almost kneeling on the ground.
If everything in front of her was just a dream, she could feel Christopher’s warmth; his palm was as warm as it felt the first time he ruffled her hair.
Sophia was at a loss, unable to distinguish between dream and reality, only knowing she was scared silly, bewildered by Christopher’s bizarre behavior.
She couldn’t believe this was real, that Christopher would actually approach her and touch her of his own accord.
In her memory, Christopher only felt annoyance towards her, not even sparing her a proper glance. She was dumbfounded, stupidly standing behind the high stool, wide-eyed, foolishly staring at Christopher.
Their eyes met, and she saw her reflection in his eyes. She saw that the smile on Christopher’s mouth was still there; Sophia felt so light, as though she was standing on a cloud, soaring with the wind.
She admitted, she had rekindled her old feelings, no, it wasn’t rekindling. She liked him so much she almost couldn’t breathe. She had never stopped liking Christopher, so there was no "rekindling."
Her gaze fixed on Christopher, unable to move away, even though her heart was reminding her, "Sophia, stop looking, or Christopher will get angry."
But she just found him so pleasing to look at, wanted to see him, loved how he gazed at her so affectionately.
By now, she was almost certain she was dreaming, maybe even dozing off at the bar, because only in a dream would Christopher gently pay attention to her like this.
They stared at each other for so long that Maya sat on the side, completely engrossed, thinking, "What on earth are these two doing? Planning to stare at each other all night?"
A moment later, Christopher felt a bit embarrassed being stared at by Sophia in a public place, confirming that she still liked him, that he still had a place in her heart.
He then snapped his fingers at the bartender and instructed, "A glass of orange juice for the young lady, to calm her nerves."
Not until Christopher’s pleasant voice rang out did Sophia snap out of her daze, remembering she wasn’t dreaming but was indeed in the bar, and that Maya was right by her side.
Sophia quickly turned around. Sure enough, Maya was sitting next to her, looking at her with a face full of disdain.
Sophia turned her back on Christopher, biting her lower lip tightly, unable to figure out what was happening, how Christopher could initiate conversation with her.
She gulped, hoping to get answers from Maya’s eyes, but that girl was also looking at her, equally confused.
"Miss, your orange juice is ready," said the bartender, placing a glass of orange juice in front of her, making Sophia all the more convinced that she hadn’t been dreaming, that Christopher had genuinely looked at her and even smiled.
Sophia turned around to glance at the orange juice, then looked at Christopher again, seeing that he was still watching her.
In that moment, Sophia felt awkward, unable to decipher what Christopher was thinking, but she knew what she had said and done.
She remembered saying she would give up on Christopher, said she wouldn’t chase him anymore, wouldn’t bother him again, to avoid causing him any trouble.
She has always been the kind of girl who sticks to her word; since the words had left her mouth, she naturally had to keep her promise and couldn’t let Christopher look down on her.
So, she flashed an awkward smile at Christopher, quickly turned around, grabbed Maya by the wrist, and fled.
Christopher’s expression darkened as he watched the girl hurriedly leave.
He thought by expressing goodwill towards Sophia, she would understand his intentions, but he didn’t expect her to avoid him.
Christopher wanted to approach Sophia again, but saw her and Maya deep in serious conversation, so he didn’t interrupt them, just quietly watched Sophia from a distance, just as she used to look at him.
