Chapter 671 - 669: I Will Bite You [Part 1]
Facing Maya Spencer’s temptation, Sophia Bennett was in a dilemma. Even though she hadn’t won Christopher Scott over, she couldn’t deny that she had gained many good friends. She didn’t want to distance herself from everyone, but she was afraid of Christopher Scott and didn’t know how to face him.
Sophia Bennett has always been someone who isn’t easily embarrassed, impulsively acting on whims. However, having chased Christopher Scott for so long without success and with him growing increasingly annoyed with her, she knew this situation was truly awkward.
Therefore, she hesitated to meet up with everyone. If anyone brought up the past, or if Christopher Scott showed up with another girlfriend, she wouldn’t know where to hide her face.
So, she said hesitantly, "Of course I want to go! Why wouldn’t I? But we can have a small gathering without necessarily bumping into Christopher Scott. I don’t want to see his cold face, as if I owe him money or something. I’m not chasing him anymore."
What irritated her was that now she wasn’t pursuing Christopher Scott anymore, yet he still didn’t show her a kind face, which made Sophia Bennett quite upset.
"If he doesn’t like you, let him avoid you then! Anyway, since you’re not chasing him or hoping for a future with him, why care so much about his feelings? Don’t you think? The more he dislikes you, the more you should appear before him to make him uncomfortable! After all, he makes you uncomfortable too." Maya Spencer isn’t good at giving advice, but she’s great at giving skewed logic.
Sophia Bennett listened to Maya Spencer’s words, and felt they had some truth. Since Christopher Scott didn’t like her and didn’t want to see her, then he should hide away. Why should she hide? She didn’t owe him anything.
Hence, she took a deep breath and said confidently, "Fine, I’ll go! If he doesn’t want to see me, then he shouldn’t come! I won’t hide anymore."
Sophia Bennett’s firm resolve was dismantled by Maya Spencer’s few words.
Whatever, once she’s there, she just won’t acknowledge Christopher Scott. As long as she doesn’t look at him, it’s fine.
However, Sophia Bennett didn’t know that Christopher Scott didn’t dislike her. From the day she didn’t send a text, Christopher Scott stopped disliking her and even started missing her; to be honest, he never really disliked her. It was just that her timing and method of approach were off; when she met Christopher Scott, he was troubled about Seven Murray, and her clingy way of pursuing him reminded him of many past events.
Due to his relationship with Seven Murray at the time, he simply didn’t believe in impulsive love from girls, so he always thought Sophia Bennett was chasing him just to feel more accomplished. Moreover, she had pursued so many people before; her non-serious attitude towards relationships made it impossible for Christopher Scott to take her seriously.
So, Sophia Bennett didn’t know that Christopher Scott actually had no dislike towards her. Admittedly, when she first met him, she was indeed a bit annoying.
What’s more, she didn’t know that at that moment, Christopher Scott was at his desk, flipping through the messages she had previously sent him.
Christopher Scott looked at the texts, looking at what Sophia Bennett used to say to him, and he seriously wanted to reply to her, but didn’t have the courage. His thoughts were still lingering on the incident at the department store two days ago, when she mentioned marriage.
Christopher Scott wasn’t sure when he would receive an invitation from her, but what he was certain of was that he didn’t want to receive it.
He pressed one hand against the desk, with his fingers touching his lips, while his other hand held his phone, scrolling through Sophia Bennett’s texts, his eyes half-closed as if scrutinizing her messages.
[Christopher Scott, the hotpot tonight almost killed me, I drank two jars of orange juice, and halfway through driving I wanted to go to the restroom, but I held it back. I’ll never eat such spicy hotpot again. What about you? Have you gotten home? Do you handle spice well?]
"Haha..." Christopher Scott couldn’t help but laugh when he saw this message; he couldn’t imagine how she managed to drive holding her bladder.
He thought that if he had been by her side, he would have done everything possible to stop the car and find her a public restroom.
However, this happened 10 months ago; the time to make amends has long passed.
"Phew..." A moment later, Christopher Scott exhaled heavily, feeling a bit weighed down.
He’s hoping, hoping that Sophia Bennett will go to the bar tonight, and won’t keep avoiding him. Although they ran into each other at the department store a few days ago, he still missed her.
Even knowing she has a boyfriend, he still wants to see her, because only when he sees her does he not feel so lonely and isolated.
So, at nine o’clock in the evening, Christopher Scott went to the bar early, waiting for Sophia Bennett to arrive, just like she used to wait for him.
When Maya Spencer and Liam Spencer arrived, they were a bit surprised to see Christopher Scott there so early.
Maya Spencer thought that Christopher Scott showed up earlier for gatherings now because he knew Sophia Bennett wasn’t coming; her expression turned sour, and when Christopher Scott’s gaze landed on her, she rolled her eyes at him.
Seeing this, Christopher Scott quickly reached out his big hand to grab Maya Spencer’s wrist, pulling her to sit beside him, asking, "My sweetheart, did I offend you? You’re about to become a bride, and you’re rolling your eyes at people, how impolite."
Maya Spencer bit her lower lip at Christopher Scott’s reproach and slapped his shoulder with a "slap," commanding, "Christopher Scott, I’m telling you, my sister is coming tonight, so don’t give her an ugly face. She’s not chasing you now, so there’s no need for you to give her a cold look, right?"
In the eyes of others, everyone thought Christopher Scott didn’t like Sophia Bennett. Maybe Christopher Scott was hiding it well, or maybe Sophia Bennett’s feelings were just too humble.
Christopher Scott was not happy hearing Maya Spencer’s scolding; he pinched her cheek, displeased, and said, "When did I ever give her attitude? Don’t wrongly accuse people."
Actually, since their agreement of sorts, he had never shown Sophia Bennett a bad face; he was simply more polite to her than to others.
Maya Spencer saw Christopher Scott’s denial and grabbed his ear, saying, "Whatever, I don’t care. When my sister arrives, if you dare give her any attitude, I’ll never let you off."
"How are you planning on not letting me off?" Christopher Scott asked with a hint of a smile on his lips.
Maya Spencer furrowed her brows at his question and made a biting gesture earnestly, threatening, "I’ll bite you."
"Who told you to bite people? Except for me, no one else is allowed to bite. This little mouth is mine." Listening to their exchange, Liam Spencer hadn’t intervened initially, but when he heard Maya Spencer saying she wanted to bite Christopher Scott, he protested, immediately sitting behind her, wrapping his left hand around her waist and his right hand around her neck.
"Third brother, I didn’t—I was just lecturing Christopher Scott, telling him not to bully my sister." Maya Spencer turned her head, kissed Liam Spencer on the cheek, and coquettishly said.
"Alright, alright, you two stop flaunting here." Christopher Scott looked at the loving couple before him, already receiving a thousand points of damage.
Then he asked again, "Is that guy Theo coming too?"
He still couldn’t get Sophia Bennett’s fiancé, Theo, out of his mind.
