Chapter 667 - 665: A Perfect Match [2nd Update]
However, during those extremely painful days, Sophia Bennett successfully invaded his life.
Christopher Scott’s dislike for Sophia overshadowed his regret for Seven Murray. He always disliked Sophia more than he missed Seven.
As time passed day by day, Christopher unconsciously let go of Seven, yet he developed a dependency on Sophia. She shifted his focus.
Looking back now, Christopher cannot deny that the annoying Sophia troubled him more than lamenting Seven because Sophia was an everlasting pause.
Thinking of Sophia again, Christopher couldn’t help but take a deep breath. He never expected to care so much after that person left.
When Seven got engaged, he remembered feeling deep regret for not holding onto her, regretting his immaturity and the hurt he caused Seven.
But now, with Sophia giving up her pursuit of him, time seemed to stand still. Though he didn’t regret it, he couldn’t be happy no matter what, and everything felt meaningless. This feeling of loneliness filled him with inexplicable fear, leaving his heart empty, making him feel like a puppet.
This fear was even greater than when Seven got engaged. At that time, Christopher contemplated ending his life to eliminate his grievances against himself.
But now, he felt like a dead person, devoid of vitality, living a routine life like a fool, unaware of where he went wrong, only feeling a frightening loneliness, even longing for Sophia to continue bothering him.
In this way, his life would have a bit of expectation, something to look forward to.
Now, he had no expectations for anything.
Beside him, Madam Scott noticed Christopher’s gloom and was unhappy. She lifted her right hand, pinched his arm, and said irritably, "You brat, is accompanying me shopping so painful?"
Hearing Madam Scott’s scolding, Christopher rubbed his pinched arm and complained with much grievance, "I haven’t finished my work. How can I have the mind to accompany you shopping?"
Christopher was lying. Even if he returned to work, he would still be gloomy.
His mood was unrelated to shopping but was influenced by someone’s sudden departure.
Listening to Christopher’s complaints, Madam Scott quietly linked arms with him, leaned close to his ear, and said happily, "Christopher, let me tell you, Mom has a classmate whose daughter is beautiful, well-educated, and cheerful, quite similar to Seven. I’ve arranged to have lunch with them today. See if she suits your taste?"
As soon as Madam Scott finished speaking, Christopher couldn’t help but roll his eyes at her. He knew there wouldn’t be anything good happening when she dragged him out, and sure enough, it turned out to be a matchmaking affair waiting for him.
Then, Christopher forcefully pulled Madam Scott’s hand off his arm and said indifferently, "You can have this meal yourself. I’m going back to work."
He was in a mess, feeling hopeless, and how could he be in the mood for a date? It was nonsense.
Now, Christopher only hoped to quickly recover from his dismay. As for his love life, he dared not think much; it wasn’t that easy to find someone he clicked with perfectly.
For a moment, the shadow of Sophia flashed in his mind, and he couldn’t help but recall her secretly watching him.
Ever since Sophia left, with every thought of her, his reliance on her grew.
To this day, he still missed being harassed by her. Over the past year or so, Sophia had long become an indispensable part of his life.
Seeing Christopher trying to escape, Madam Scott refused to let go, grabbed his arm, and said angrily, "Christopher, you better behave. What do you want? Trying to overturn the heavens? When Seven left, I nearly talked myself hoarse urging you to win her back, and you said she’d come back to find you. Sophia was devoted to you, yet you made things difficult for her everywhere. Sarah River is beautiful and well-educated, but you don’t like her. Today, tell me, what kind of girl do you like? If you truly wish for the Scott Family to have no descendants, I won’t spare you."
Madam Scott hated the urge to slap Christopher. She couldn’t understand how she had a son so ungrateful. Good girls were right in front of him, yet he either drove them away or let them go. As a mother, witnessing this, her heart bled, and this guy remained indifferent, like he deserved a beating!
"Mom, I’m going back to the company," Christopher said as he pulled away from Madam Scott’s hand once again.
If he had to choose, he would rather be harassed by Sophia than meet any other girl, even if she resembled Seven. He had no interest. However, he wanted Sophia to come back and bother him, but Sophia wouldn’t do that anymore. Even if her heart wasn’t over him, she was a woman of her word. If she said she wouldn’t pursue him, she wouldn’t.
Christopher tried to leave, and Madam Scott tried to hold him back. Thus, mother and son pulled each other in the department store, with Madam Scott tightly grasping Christopher’s arm, refusing to let him go.
After a while, Madam Scott suddenly pushed Christopher away, staring intently ahead.
She seemed to see Sophia in this department store, but what confused her was that the girl had short hair and was accompanied by a handsome boy.
She clearly remembered Sophia had long hair and liked her son. It was impossible for her to have a boyfriend so soon.
To confirm whether she was seeing things, Madam Scott pushed Christopher and frowned, asking, "Christopher, is that girl Sophia?"
Upon hearing the name Sophia, Christopher’s eyes widened, and he swiftly turned around, following Madam Scott’s gaze.
He saw a girl wearing a white T-shirt on top, light-colored denim shorts below, and flat sneakers. Her skin was fair, her legs long, and she looked extremely sunny and beautiful.
When Christopher locked his gaze on her face, he held his breath.
He saw that Sophia had cut her hair short, ear-length with some bangs, looking young and fresh.
In the ten days since he’d last seen her, Sophia had completely changed. She was no longer the gloomy girl hiding in the shadows to watch him. She looked sunny and bright, with a smile that could fill his empty heart.
This version of Sophia captivated Christopher so that he couldn’t take his eyes off her.
He had never looked at Sophia so seriously, never realized she could emit such energy, capable of warming his heart.
Suddenly, Christopher felt an impulse, an urge to rush forward and hug her tightly.
This thought even surprised himself. He never thought he would be so defenseless against Sophia, but he just wanted to embrace her and feel her warmth, using her radiant smile to fill his loneliness.
However, he suddenly saw Sophia lift her arm and link it with the boy beside her.
