Chapter 311 - 309 Sentimental [4 updates]
She cried for a long time, until people continuously cast strange glances at her. Only then did Maya Spencer wipe her tears, grab her bag, and return to the apartment.
Shortly after she got home, a wave of nausea hit her stomach again. Covering her mouth, she rushed straight to the bathroom.
In the bathroom, Maya was leaning over the toilet and could almost surely confirm she was pregnant because the feeling was all too familiar.
After vomiting, she sat dumbfounded in the living room, completely in shock, for an entire day until the sound of Liam Spencer opening the door at 6 PM jolted her awake. She quickly stood up from the sofa and awkwardly greeted him, "You’re back!"
At the entrance, Liam looked at the girl’s swollen eyes from crying and frowned, thinking to himself, she should have been quite comfortable last night, not hurt, right? So why is she crying again?
Seeing Liam ignoring her, Maya no longer talked to him but grabbed her phone to order takeout, a habit she had formed every day.
The man watched her pick up the phone to order food, quickly walked over to the sofa, snatched the phone from her, and said with neither warmth nor coldness, "Let’s go out to eat."
Hearing the man’s command, Maya didn’t oppose him and nodded in agreement. Anyway, staying at home was depressing, and going out for a change would be good.
In the car, Maya stared straight ahead, not initiating conversation with Liam, pondering what his reaction would be if he knew she was pregnant. Would he let her go?
What puzzled her more was that she couldn’t comprehend Liam’s tolerance. He placed her with different men in bed. Didn’t he feel disgusted seeing her each time? Yet, he still took her out for meals.
Thinking about this, Maya glanced at Liam out of the corner of her eye, only to see his expression was still blank.
"Why were you crying today?" the man finally spoke as he noticed her sneaking a peek at him.
"Nothing, just a bit sentimental," she brushed it off.
Liam continued, "In the future, if Aron Hanson has any contracts for you to sign, just bring them back."
After Maya left the Hanson Clan Group today, Aron personally called Liam and said he had a pretty good project, asking if he was interested.
When Liam received Aron’s call, he guessed that Maya had rejected him today, so Aron called him directly.
Liam could understand Maya’s dilemma. Therefore, he didn’t ask much, just said to have someone send the contract for him to review, but he had already made up his mind to cooperate.
Beside him, Maya listened to Liam bring up the contract and was dumbfounded for a moment. She didn’t expect Liam to be so straightforward. Since he would still sign contracts for her as before, she swallowed hard, nodded at him, and agreed.
She increasingly didn’t understand Liam, nor did she care to understand, as long as he was happy and didn’t go crazy.
Moments later, Liam took Maya to a restaurant famous for its health-focused cuisine. He ordered a lot of nutritious food for her and then pushed a bowl of bird’s nest soup towards her.
Ever since Maya got injured after accompanying a client, Liam seemed to have a pang of conscience and treated her with much more courtesy.
Although he still didn’t say much to her, he no longer snapped at or mocked her. So, the word ’courteous’ best described their relationship.
Maya looked at the pile of supplements before her and slowly raised her head, cautiously saying, "There’s too much. I can’t finish it all."
The man, observing her timid demeanor, gently said, "Eat as much as you can."
"Mm!" She responded softly.
Then he added, "From now on, I’ll pick you up for lunch and dinner. Don’t order takeout anymore."
Even though the man was saying something nice, showing concern for her, his tone was so cold that it conveyed not an ounce of warmth, leaving her without the courage to refuse. So, once again, Maya just said, "Mm."
At that moment, she wondered if Liam knew she was pregnant and realized she couldn’t help him make money anymore. Would he still bring her out for meals? Would he still choose not to trouble Lillian Morris?
With that in mind, Maya couldn’t help but smile bitterly, thinking if he knew she was pregnant, he should be happy, right? Would he let her have the baby? This child whose father she didn’t even know was destined to be her lifelong shame. Who would dare approach her with this burden and a dishonorable past? Even Lillian might look down on her.
Liam watched the girl’s bitter smile, feeling she must have encountered something significant, causing her emotional change today. Yet, he didn’t think in the direction of pregnancy at all.
As he looked directly into Maya’s eyes, his phone suddenly rang. He grabbed the phone on the table, quickly stood up from the sofa, glanced at Maya indicating for her to eat well, and took the phone to the VIP lounge to answer it.
On his way to the VIP lounge, he saw Lillian Morris and Jane Spencer walking into the restaurant.
At the moment Lillian saw Liam, her gaze immediately landed on Maya.
At a VIP table, Maya was quietly eating with her head down. Opposite her was a draped thin scarf and a men’s wallet on the table. Without much thought, Lillian guessed that Maya had come with Liam.
Watching Maya’s calm demeanor, Lillian couldn’t help but frown. Recently, she had been wondering why Liam had suddenly stopped suppressing him. Initially, she thought Jane had approached Liam, but it seemed Maya betrayed her promise and returned to Liam’s side.
He looked at the girl with swollen, sad eyes, almost able to guess her reluctant compromise.
Thinking about her returning to Liam for his sake, Lillian felt blocked up.
This matter was initially because Liam had been unreasonable. He never intended to involve Maya, and he had repeatedly urged her to trust him, yet she still went back to Liam.
The most important thing was she wasn’t doing well at all. From her eyes, he could tell she was living oppressed and unhappy.
As he brushed past Liam, Lillian turned his head, staring straight at him with eyes full of anger. Liam looked at the man’s gaze, casually gave a cold smile, and continued talking on his phone.
Beside him, Jane glanced at Liam and quickly turned around to ask, "Liam, which table are you at?"
"Maya is over there." After Liam responded, he hurriedly left on the phone first.
Following Liam’s glance, Jane found Maya and pulled Lillian over to sit.
At the table, Maya saw Jane and Lillian and quickly smiled to greet them, but her gaze obviously avoided Lillian.
Jane noticed the hint of awkwardness in the girl’s eyes and smiled while asking, "Maya, I’m going to the restroom, do you want to come along?"
