Chapter 271 - 269: Second to None [Update 4]
Liam Spencer looked at someone’s impatient demeanor, holding in a bellyful of anger, because Maya Spencer had no idea what the problem was.
Thus, he suddenly increased the pressure on her chin and angrily asked, "Why lie?"
Maya Spencer was startled by his fierce demeanor and only then realized that he was angry about her lying.
Maya had always been open about doing bad things, so she was never good at lying. Now, facing Liam’s questioning, she felt guilty.
Seeing his furious look, Maya didn’t want to engage with him, especially since they were in a public setting and the elevator doors could open at any time. So she suddenly said, "If I told you I was having dinner with my second brother, would you freak out? I don’t want to invite trouble."
Ultimately, unable to withstand his strong aura, she confessed.
Listening to her confession, Liam took a deep breath and removed his hand from her chin, flatly saying, "Unnecessary meetings like these should be avoided in the future. There are many things beyond your control."
Facing the man’s sudden weakness, Maya did not respond, just stood by his side with her head lowered, staring at her toes.
The man looked at her silent demeanor and reached out his right hand to rub her chin, as if apologizing for his earlier brutishness.
Soon after, he casually asked, "What do you want to eat?"
"No appetite, I want to go home." Maya didn’t want to accept his attempts to placate her.
"Accompany me to the company." Liam didn’t send Maya home but instead asked her to accompany him to the company.
On the way, he looked at Maya, who remained silent, and raised his right hand to pinch her little cheek, saying, "If you’re bored at home, just come work at the company. Which department would you like to join?"
Liam was afraid she would be too bored at home and let her imagination run wild, so he asked her to work at his company, thus increasing their opportunities to see each other.
In the passenger seat, Maya was initially lifeless, but upon hearing Liam’s suggestion to work at the company, her eyes suddenly widened, filled with energy.
She initially thought she needed to win Liam over, for him to lower his guard, before infiltrating the Owen Clan Group, but he unexpectedly suggested she work there so quickly.
If she could stay by Liam’s side and steal information from the Owen Clan Group, it would undoubtedly be of great help to the Hanson Clan and would somewhat please her.
So, she frowned and contemplated it for a moment without hesitation.
After a moment, she then coyly said, "I don’t want to be too tired, but I want power."
Listening to her request, Liam’s lips slightly curved upward, and he helplessly shook his head, saying, "Assistant to the president, one person below, above everyone else."
"Great!" Maya agreed without thinking. Being Liam’s assistant would surely involve many significant projects, something she would be eager for.
Liam looked at the girl’s joyful demeanor, extended his long arm to hook her neck, and pulled her toward him, then kissed her lips.
Maya, caught in the kiss, stared straight into Liam’s eyes, her little heart inexplicably starting to race. Thinking about her spy work, she couldn’t help but feel nervous.
However, the excitement and unease in her eyes were entirely seen by Liam, yet unnoticed as he continued to deeply kiss her.
Half an hour later, Liam and Maya arrived at the Owen Clan Group hand in hand.
At the company, everyone was stunned to see them appear together, thinking their BOSS was really getting married this time, openly bringing the lady boss to the company.
In the lobby, facing everyone’s curious gazes, Maya remained indifferent, only thinking about how the company might gradually be taken down.
Just as they stepped out of the elevator, heading toward the office, Maya heard a familiar voice.
"Chairman, the afternoon meeting is already arranged."
Hearing the girl’s voice, Maya immediately stopped in her tracks and slowly turned around, removing her large sunglasses to stare directly at the other person.
Upon seeing that the speaker was Lydia Jones, her expression immediately became ugly, and she involuntarily gave a cold smile.
After the smile, she raised her head and stared unwaveringly at Liam’s eyes, seemingly waiting for an explanation from him.
However, Liam didn’t explain anything, merely replied indifferently to Lydia, "Got it." Then he led Maya back to the office.
Inside the office, seeing his indifferent attitude, Maya kept a cold smile on her lips.
When Liam sat back at his desk, Maya suddenly slammed her purse onto his desk and then slowly sat opposite him, provocatively saying, "Was having dinner with Kinsley such a trap to make me uncomfortable?"
To Maya, Liam’s earlier invitation was a form of sarcasm. Knowing full well he had kept Lydia in the company, yet pretended to offer her an assistant role, wasn’t that deliberately sickening her, constantly reminding her that she was a stand-in?
Such an arrangement made Maya uncomfortable at heart.
Listening to Maya’s accusatory questioning, Liam took a deep breath and looked at her indifferently, saying, "Maya, is there any need for me to go to such lengths with you? If you can get rid of Lydia, I’ll give you whatever reward you want."
Liam’s words baffled Maya a little. She couldn’t fathom his true intentions until she carefully thought it over for a moment and then started to grasp the situation.
Seeing how much Liam disliked Lydia and even wanted to expel her, she realized that this person was not someone he had brought in himself. Then an image of Charlotte Owen suddenly flashed through her mind, remembering that woman didn’t like her very much either.
Even though Liam hadn’t explained his absence from the engagement banquet, she vaguely felt this was related to Charlotte Owen; otherwise, why would Lydia show up during their engagement?
Thinking of this, Maya couldn’t help but coldly smile, thinking, Liam must be quite abandoned by everyone, not only getting along poorly with the Spencer Family but also having conflicts with the Owen Family.
Well then! Since he wants to use her to trouble Charlotte Owen, why should she hold back? Besides, she could use Liam to get things done for her. Why not?
Therefore, she mischievously smiled and said, "Sure! I’m more than happy to play the villain."
The man watched the girl’s mischievous demeanor, her enchanting smile, and her twinkling eyes, unable to look away, so he beckoned to her with his finger, saying, "Come here."
Maya heard the man’s command, coldly laughed twice, and slowly stood up from her chair, swaying her curvaceous waist as she approached him.
When she stopped before him, she swiftly lifted her right leg and sat on his lap, with an enchanting smile she said, "Third Young Master, things seem to be getting more interesting."
Before arriving at the Owen Clan Group, Maya had been in a dead state, but at this moment, she seemed revitalized, knowing exactly what she should do.
