Chapter 761: She is Mrs. Gu (6)
The originally pleasant ringtone seemed to tighten along with the atmosphere at this moment.
Gu Annan felt especially irritated and glanced at the phone before hanging up again.
"Who is it?" Lu Wanwan slowly cut a piece of beef and put it into her mouth, "Why don’t you answer?"
"Zhao Chen, it’s nothing."
As soon as he had spoken, the phone rang again.
She said indifferently, "It’s okay, you answer it. It might be urgent."
Gu Annan hesitated for a moment, then answered, "This better be extremely urgent, otherwise...When did it happen?"
Before he spoke, Lu Wanwan looked at him, her expression pausing.
His frustration was suppressed, "I know, I’ll prepare and head back now."
After ending the call, Gu Annan’s face was taut, and he slowly turned to her.
Before he could speak, Lu Wanwan put down her fork, "Is there an emergency?"
"Yes." His tone was a bit stiff, as he looked at her intending to say something but ended up not saying it.
"Then let’s go." She wiped her mouth and stood up, "We can eat anytime; it’s not important."
Gu Annan felt like there was a weight on his chest, finally standing up as well.
"Are you going back now?"
Lu Wanwan thought for a moment, gauging from his serious demeanor that it might be no small matter, "What happened? Should I come with you? Although I might not be much help."
Having thought of what he had heard on the phone, he shook his head.
He walked over and embraced her, "I’ll handle it. You go ahead."
"Okay." She guessed it was probably business-related. She wouldn’t be of much help either.
Gu Annan was silent for a moment, "We’ll make it up next time."
"Huh?" Lu Wanwan looked up, smiling, "It’s just a meal, no need to make anything up. We’ll have plenty of chances to eat together in the future."
"This meal is this meal." He was somewhat irritable inside, but slowly relaxed his brows, "Let’s go."
Lu Wanwan followed him as they quickly left Huxin Island and got into the car.
Gu Annan instructed the driver to drop her at the cinema, speeding all the way.
"I’ll be gone for a few days. If anything comes up, Zhao Chen will handle it for you. I’ve also arranged the collaboration, so no worries there. I’ve requested leave for you at MG; spend some time with them and rest," he instructed one by one after getting in the car, then took her phone, inputting a number, "In case you can’t reach Zhao Chen, call this number, it’ll work for anything."
Lu Wanwan took the phone, glancing at it briefly, probably another one of his subordinates.
"You’re overthinking it. I’ve been taking care of them alone for so long, there’s hardly ever any problems. Taking leave is truly unnecessary."
"In a few days, you’ll come with me to the old house, so you need to take leave anyway; a few days earlier won’t hurt," Gu Annan thought then added, "If, I mean, if anything unexpected happens, call this number I gave you. It’s faster than looking for me. But don’t worry about anything."
She looked up, skeptical, "What happened?"
"Nothing, I just don’t feel at ease not being able to keep an eye on you all the time." He ruffled her long hair, "The most important thing is to just wait patiently for me to come and fetch you. Don’t let me see you entangled in any messy rumors again, and don’t run away again. No matter what, don’t run away."
He was actually worried she might take the kids and use the opportunity to run away.
Thinking about her constant rejections lately, she wondered if she was giving him the wrong idea.
She reached up to him and wrapped her arms around his waist, her chin rubbing against his chest, "I won’t. I’ll have something to tell you when you come back!"
