Chapter 760: Chapter 760: She is Mrs. Gu (5)
Lu Wanwan looked out the window at the night sky, the moonlight spreading over the surface of the lake, gentle waves moving slowly in the night.
She glanced again at her phone and frowned when she saw the time.
Looking up with a hesitancy in her eyes, she opened them wide while gazing at him.
“What’s wrong now?” Gu Annan asked with a raised eyebrow, “Hungry, complaining about the slow service?”
“No,” she replied, her fingers clutching the phone as she bit her lip, “It’s past eight, too late.”
“So?”
“How about we take it to go?” Her tone was one of negotiation, a hint of resignation in her voice, “I don’t have that much free time anymore.”
Initially, she thought Gu Annan would take her straight home, so she dozed off feeling secure.
When she woke up, she found herself in the restaurant, as if in a dream.
Only now, seeing the time, did she quickly return to reality.
Sometimes, it was inevitable that work kept her from getting home.
After all, only by working harder to earn money could she afford to support them.
But whenever possible, she would spend more time at home, trying to make up for her absence.
Even though this dinner seemed beautiful and romantic, she still felt that going home was more important compared to it.
“Takeout…” Gu Annan’s mouth twitched.
Would she rather have takeout than have a meal alone with him?
Even though those two were his son and daughter, he couldn’t help feeling a bit displeased.
Her work took up most of her time, and the remaining time was divided by two children not yet weaned?
What about him?
“They’re at home alone, aren’t you worried?” Lu Wanwan looked at his darkening face, not understanding what was wrong with her words.
He himself was trying to make it up to them; the man who wasn’t good with children was learning how to interact with them.
How could he make things difficult for her over such an issue?
The waiter began serving the food, each dish as exquisite as a work of art.
She looked at it and felt regretful, knowing that to-go would sacrifice much of its beauty.
“Do you really think I’d be so negligent as to not have thought of that?” Gu Annan gave her a sidelong glance, “They’ve gone to the premiere of Transformers.”
“So that’s it.” She chuckled, earlier she had thought they might be at home waiting eagerly for mommy to come back.
Seeing Gu Annan’s persistent displeasure, she murmured, “I wanted to go too, why didn’t you let me come along?”
Gu Annan’s brows knotted, was she doing this on purpose to irritate him?
“Let’s eat,” Lu Wanwan said with a purse of her lips and a sparkling smile in her eyes, stirring her spoon and asking, “Shall we pick them up later? Who did you have take them?”
“Keep quiet while eating!” he said, his face tensing unnaturally as he listened to her prattle on with irrelevant topics.
“…” She gave him a frustrated glance.
But looking around, she realized the setting wasn’t appropriate for too much chatter.
She lowered her head, deciding not to speak another word from that moment on.
“Wanwan.” After a while, she heard him speak up, his tone somewhat solemn.
Lu Wanwan pouted, not lifting her eyelids, as if she hadn’t heard him.
Gu Annan narrowed his eyes at her deliberate act and said softly and slowly, “Look up, there’s something serious.”
Her heart inexplicably began to race, and she couldn’t resist raising her eyes with curiosity.
His handsome face flickered between light and shadow in the candlelight, his deep eyes like the sea.
Just as Gu Annan’s lips began to move, the phone rang.
He knitted his brows and, without thinking, hung up.
Immediately after, another private number rang.
