Book 5: Chapter 37 — Ascendant Assault

The storm dragon slammed to the ground in a fighting fury, striking out at Tahira quick as lightning.
She reacted in the same instant, teleporting in a Voidburst from where he’d struck to above and behind him, leaving behind a flare of energy that warped and tore at the fabric of the plane.
The dragon pulled up short, halting its attack before it could collide with her trap. Well, that was fine. She tagged the back of its head with a Voidmark instead, then added Suppression and Void’s Eye for good measure.
The dragon’s tail lashed out at her and she teleported back to the front of the beast, leaving behind another patch of disrupted reality. It tried to teleport in turn, but Voidseal was already in place. The monster’s own attack slashed into its body, weakening its protective spells and even knocking free a few scales.
She shook her head. “And here I hoped you’d give me an interesting fight.”
The dragon didn’t answer. Lightning boiled around it, forcing Tahira to jump away.
“So you’d prefer to do this at a distance? Fine by me.” She drew Hungerfang, took aim, and fired a bolt of pure Void Annihilation into the beast’s chest.
At this, oddly, the dragon seemed amused. She saw why a second later, when the ability splashed off a barrier just beyond the creature’s scales and faded instead of burning into it.
