Book 5: Chapter 35 — Solo Ventures

Zaxius had not trained in over three centuries. Not truly trained, not pushed himself to the edge of his limits and beyond. The shackles that bound his power had made such efforts pointless. But things had changed.
Noah had freed him partially in the Astral Rift, loosening the bindings enough that Zax could feel his power stirring beneath the surface, waiting for the cracks to widen. He just needed to find the right opponents.
Zax could feel them before he saw them: a dozen presences coiled around each other in the crater’s center, a writhing mass of shadow and skeleton that hissed and screamed at his approach.
Bone Wyrms. Ranging from juveniles barely a hundred feet long to adults that rivaled his true shackled form in size. They coiled around each other protectively, a colony that had grown fat and numerous in a place where nothing challenged them.
