While guards were busy carrying the broken Darsein boy out, Araben’s lips curled into a mischievous smirk. "Is that a scale on his face?" she asked, pointing at one of the Serpent shifters.
One of the noblewomen leaned in with a dreamy sigh. "Yes, and he’s so handsome. I want to see him in his beast form."
Amused by the idea, Araben laughed and turned to Reneira. "Order him to shift. Now."
A chill ran down Ren’s spine...how disrespectful. Without replying, she linked it to Kai, letting him decide.
Kai clenched his jaw. This human clearly lacked even a shred of fear.

He walked over to his serpent shifter, whispered something in his ear, then stepped confidently into the center of the arena.
The serpent shifter’s gaze flicked to Araben. She flashed a sly smirk. "I heard you, little princess."
The smile on Araben’s face withered.
The Serpent shifter shifted in a flash, scales rippled across his skin, and a long, dark crimson tail unfurled behind him. With a serpentine hiss, he lunged at Kai, attacking in a flurry of wild strikes that made the audience collectively gasp.
"Your husband is so fast, princess!" someone whispered in awe.
